What do YOU think?

Yes, it is illegal. The tax disc relates only to the vehicle which is registered. It says so on the documents.

If you copy it for someone then you will be guilty of Fraud and your friend will also be guilty of using an Unlicenced and Uninsured vehicle, probably without an MOT. It will be uninsured because no insurance company will cover an untaxed vehicle. You will also be guilty of being an Accessory to these offences.

These crimes carry prison sentences and also the vehicles concerned can be confiscated and destroyed.

Personally, I would crush all unisured vehicles with their drivers inside them at the time. These people cost legitimate motorists hundereds of pounds each per year and they usually drive in a reckless and dangerous manner. They deserve no sympathy or respect in any way shape or form.

They destroy lives and families when they crash their (stolen?) cars.
They are parasites who are scum that exist at the risk and expense of the law abiding citizens.

I really hope that you are not one of them....

the tax disc has holograms and details of your vehicle. The only purpose you have for a copied disc is to prove you had it in the first place, and if someone else uses the copy, they will be "failing to diplay a valid licence". You would have to change the information on the disc for it to be useful (which is then illegal) and If the police investigate and find you have copied it deliberately to avoid tax, you will also be breaking the law.

Personally i would use crayons and felt-tip to make one as traffic wardens wouldnt be able to tell the difference.

Hmm yes there are offences here.

Section 44 of the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 provides the offences of forgery and fraudulent use of vehicle licences, trade licences, trade plates and associated documents.
It is an offence to forge or fraudulently use, alter, lend, or allow to be used by another person the following documents:

(a) a vehicle licence,
(b) a trade licence,
(c) a nil licence,
(d) a registration mark,
(e) a registration document, and
(f) a trade plate (including a replacement trade plate).

Which could lead to either a fine or two years in prison and/or a fine.

Yes, of course. A tax disc is a unique document which has been paid for and which also validates that your car has passed its vehicle roadworthiness test (MOT).

If your car does not have a valid tax disc you can be fined and your car can be seized and even destroyed.

Of course. It's forging an official document, and you can both go to jail.
