In theory if time travel was possible and the past could be altered it already has been.
Think about it, if a guy can go back in time and then he did, well then it was already going to happen because time justified that he was going to build the machine and go back.
Time is linear, you can't alter time because it already is done.
I talked with one of my proffesors about that and that is what we agreed apon.

Wow that's a tough one. Right now popular scientific theory says that time travel to the past is not possible, but who knows. I mean just a hundred years ago or so they said flight wasn't possible and that flight beyond the speed of sound wasn't possible. We once had scientists who said space travel wasn't possible either. So I would not at all be surprised if one day they find that time travel is possible.

The other issue you raise which is, would it be dangerous to change the past is a difficult one as well. That also depends on what theory you believe. Some believe that if you travel back in time you can't go back to the same timeline that you originate from, so you'd be going back to a slightly different timeline. Others believe that if you go back and change anything that if you come back to the future, you're not coming back to your own "true" future, but a split off future that you created by changing things. Others believe that you do come back to your own future, but things change as a result of your actions. Another theory is that there are already infinite universes for each possible outcome or possibility there is, so that when you time travel you're not actually going back in time, your traveling to a separate universe/dimension in which this was just a "possibility" that actually happened to carry out in that universe, so it wasn't that you actually changed anything, it just that you're going to another reality/universe/dimension.

Also if you are interested you should do a search on "John Titor". He's a man who claims to be from the year 2030 or so. He says he was sent back to retrieve an old IBM computer, because this particular model of computer was the only type that used two different types of programming/code, which actually that part is true, but any computer historian could tell you. Anyways he says that the US has another Civil War and according to his time line is suppossed to start either this year or next year. Sorry I don't have more details, it's been over a year since I read his story. Not sure I buy it, but it was an interesting/entertaining read.

Personally, I do believe that anything (Including time travel) is possible. However, I believe that tampering with the past will be extremely dangerous, despite how good the intentions may be.

For example, let's say we had a time machine and we went back in time to try and prevent World War II from happening by killing Hitler. While we may have saved the world from him, there is no guarentee that someone, say Stalin or Roosevelt*, wouldn't start a World War that would be more disastorous than the one we prevented.

On the flip side, it may save the lives of millions and help create a better world.

Still, tampering with time could lead to disatorous results, so it would be better if we didn't alter the past.

*Also, please note that this is hypothetical. I seriously doubt Roosevelt would start a war.

who knows what will be possible in years to come .. had you gone back two hundred years ago and tried to explain all about the internet .. YOU probably would have been locked up in the mental asylum.

One day maybe they might be able to pick up on radiation ommitted from human bodies and see the images of the past ( LOL i really don't know how to try and explain it ) ...
THEY ( future scientists) may be able to travel back ..
Never say Never.

BUT if it were possible to travel along a mobius strip of time .. I personally believe it would be dangerous to alter the past .. >WE KNOW THE OUTCOME OF THE PAST NOW .. and even if we were to try and alter the most horrible things ( like the existance of Adolph Hitle .. ) who KNOWS what might have happened that MAY have been worse ......

yes. There is this video in youtube where some guy said that he can make time travel possible through a 4th dimension. I think so. If you alter the past, you will have a very different present and future.

It may be possible, but not for a little while longer while we wait for technology to advance. It will probably be dangerous, as there are a plethora of factors and we can't foresee them all. Step on a bug in the Jurassic period, and you might turn into a fire-breathing monkey with 5 eyes.

Theoretically it is possible, but so far the conditions known for it to be possible are almost universal in magnitude (that is practically almost impossible_).But the father or the grandfather paradox assures us that you cannot change your past, only the past of the the parallel universe where you have arrived.

How do you go back in time without YOU going back in time?? My best evidence is that someone would have gone back and made themselves ruler of the world by now. Since they haven't, there is no time travel.
