What is the purpose of Girdle in womens dress?

the purpose of the girdle is to give women a shape?...well for example, I am slim and trim, and I wore a girdle with a formal dress, even tho I have a flat stomach, I would have to admit when you eat you get the puggy stomach, having the girdle on, does not show it so I do not have to stick my stomach in the rest of the night because the girdle make the dress look perfect on me.

well most people dont wear them anymore. its to suck in a pudgy belly and it also works to puch up the bust

it sucks all of ur fat in and makes u look slimmer...it makes ur waist smaller and ur check "appear" bigger
