I don't have a lot of money, no property. We have one child but I'm open to shared custody. How do I get a divorce that is fairly inexpensive?

Uncontested divorce are always less expensive. With your situation its seems its uncontested divorce which may cost you around $200-400.00 dollars to get a divorce decree. If truly you are fully convinced that your marriage cannot be worked out, go to your nearest county court house and file for no-fault divorce. Pay the fee required, you don't need an attorney unless you will claim alimony, child support or spouse support which sometimes may be complicated to solve between you and your ex to be. But since you all agree to divorce and settle all your disputes before you go to court, its will be easier to divorce, No fault divorce is where no one blames another, only your were unhappy in your marriage, or simply you don't want to be married to that man etc and there you go. The court cannot force you to stay married.

Office Depot sells a divorce packet for $39.95. You can complete the forms and file them yourself at the courthouse, or you can hire a paralegal - or you can hire a private attorney (to the tune of 10K), or you can hire a prepaid legal attorney (to the tune of 2500 or so).
Good luck. Don't forget about child support.

Wait around until your husband files, and then he can pay for it, in many places if there are no disputes you don't even need an attorney.
