I've been trying to decide which game to buy. Out of Halo3 and Call of Duty4, which is the better choice?

It depends on the type of gameplay you're looking for.

CoD4:
•More realistic game play
•Semi-short campaign (Missions can run anywhere from 5-30 minutes depending on difficulty and how good you are at these types of games)
•SINGLE PLAYER ONLY, except split-screen.
•Multiplayer matches have no customization for the 'pre-selected' game (i.e. Team Deathmatch) However you can gather friends and do private matches for customization.
•Ranking system in CoD online. You start out as a Rank 1 Private and can work all the way up to a rank 55, earning new abilities and guns, as well as special equipment for those guns.

On to Halo 3:
•Fantasy game-play. Shooting aliens and what-not.
•Also semi-short campaign. Missions are long (10 minutes and up) but there's only a total of ten missions.
•Multiplayer - 2 player co-op (4 with system link/online) 4-player split-screen matches.
•High-customization in matches. Level editor to change objects only. No terrain editting.
•Has a "Theater" mode where you can go back and watch all your matches/campaign play. Fun if you see yourself die in a great way and want to see it again/show it to your friends.


If you're looking for a game with comparable play to Gears of War:
•CoD: Over the shoulder view is available (like GoW) as well as 1st person. Fellow computer soldiers rarely seem to die, and rarely seem to kill. You're mostly on your own. Single player only, no co-op.
•Halo: No over the shoulder. Fellow marines are semi-decent at killing, though die off like flies. Co-op is available though (up to four using sys-link or online play). Theater mode is great if you're having a problem and need to learn from your mistakes.

I have played both, and the fact that people saying: "OMG, Halo 3 the best game on EARTH" has made me get the game, but originally I love Call of Duty 4, you might want Halo 3 because of all the ads and ppl saying its cool, but Call of Duty 4 has great campaign but still Gears of War has better campgin.

But Call of Duty 4 has the best online play so far...

Buy Call of Duty 4, Halo 3 is just a rent.

i have played cod 4 and halo 3 and gears of war

if you are a fan of gears' campaign then i have to say halo 3
the campaign is long in depth and more of a realistic/fantasy game like gears

on the other hand if you play rainbow six ghost recon or any other tom Clancy games you will probably enjoy cod 4
its realistic weapons, player reactions, graphics and storyline make a great addition to those player's inventory

if you are a big fan of the gears multiplayer i would still have to vote for halo 3

the cod 4 multiplayer (which is fun) is very realistic in your life span and as a gears of war fan your probably used to just running out in the open all Rambo style
cod 4 rewards a slower more strategic way of playing
you can go Rambo but you WILL die alot (I've tried)

the halo 3 multiplayer is very fast paced like cod 4 and gears but it allows for more risky play because you do not fall over dead after 2 to 3 shots

both games are great but as a gears fan you will enjoy the in depth campaign and the freestyle variety of the halo 3 game a lot more then the short but realistic campaign of cod 4 and the more strategic thinking system of it online multiplayer

Single Player = Halo3 (Longer)
Multiplayer = Call of Duty 4 by far! The Single Player is fun , but quite short.

Call of duty 4. yes, its pretty short, but the missions are intense. the graphics are amazing. the multiplayer is awesome. halo 3 is overrated, the only reason why a lot of people buy it is for the multiplayer. the single player isn't that great.
