i love reading to my 7 month old baby. But he doesn't pay attention (of course he won't). He just wants to eat and lick the book. Ha.
Should i stop reading then?

Just a simple colorful picture book will do....instead of "reading", you can point out pics and identify them.

I did that with my daughter and by the time she was 12 mos old, she knew the objects in the book when I asked her "where is the dog" and she points to it.

I've been reading to my 10 month old daughter every day since she was 6 weeks old. She loves books and really listens to the stories. She smiles and laughs at her favourite parts of stories and loves turning pages.
If I let her, she would chew the books, but I don't let her. I teach her that books are for reading and toys are for chewing.
The only way your son will learn to appreciate books is by having them read to him. Choose board books with short, simple stories. My daughter loves "Where's Spot?" by Eric Hill and other"Spot" books. She also loves nursery rhyme books, books with photos of babies in them, "Maisy" books, "Where is the green sheep?" by Mem Fox and lots of others. She will sit and read with me for half an hour or more and protests if I stop too early.
A baby is never too young to learn to appreciate books!

Of course, he isn't getting any comprehension of the story, but that doesn't mean that reading to him is useless. The more a baby hears speech, the more he or she understands. Also, reading is a good as a bedtime ritual that you can keep up with as he gets older to provide some one on one attention and consistency at bedtime. So keep reading!

Re-phrase your question as 'Should I stop talking around my baby, and should I stop showing him interesting pictures?'

People would scoff at you. 'Sure, just throw him in a box. WTF? Of course you should talk and offer visual stimuli!'

Definitely keep reading...
