Unfortunately there is no real (legal) way to "handle" people of the nature you, sort of, describe. Equally unfortunate is that there will always be people like that. About the only real things you can do is go somewhere where these people aren't. But your best bet would be to take some self defense classes that would help you overcome any fear you have over someone that you believe could hurt you. Best of luck to you.

If you mean an addition, then get help as soon as, a twelve step program if you really want to quit can really work miracles. As for dealing with those who would cause harm, it is to have nothing to do with them if they are part of the problem.
You can not control the actions of other, only your own.
Others will interact with you based on what you do and what they want, if they want something that is harmful to you, even if they do not see it that way, especially if they do not see it that way, they will do it. Therefore the best is change how you interact with them, the easiest first way is not to at all.
If these persons are not someone you must interact with, why deal with them at all?
If you must interact, find ways to limit it to protect yourself, (ie use of third parties as observers/witness/protection, meeting only in open safe places.

In this world, bad things are always more than pleasant things. And we don't always get to meet the nice person. But that does not meant there is no nice person around.
Learning to let go is not just for forgiving these people whose harm you, but is to free yourself.
