When a person says they are sorry when caught doing something, how can you tell if they are sorry for what they did, or sorry they got caught?

Depends if they always say sorry. Sorry loses its meaning if people use it too much.
Someone might be saying sorry just to save themselves.
If they were caught doing something.. said sorry.. but still have the intentions to do it again... or do it again.. then it wouldn't be sincere/
Look at their eyes, listen to their tone of voice and body language
and don't let people walk all over you.
Forgiving can only be done for so long.

People tend to be truly sorry when they confess something but when they get caught and then say they are sorry, it's the other. I think they are just sorry people-the first for telling me something I really don't need to know and the second for not respecting me enough to behave properly. And the first ones either want to make themselves feel better and don't care about your feelings or they are about to be caught.

well if you have done something bad that you really have to say sorry then you really have to face the person and be yourself like you are really sorry and all you dont have to memorize anything or what for it would be a fake sorry...be sure that it is coming from your heart and not just a word!

Well if they say there "Sorry" and walk away.. there not! But if they say there "Sorry" then explain why they are sorry and promise to learn from the mistake and never do it again.. then they are genuinely "Sorry".
