lose your accent???
i personally LOVE the way an accent sounds, as long as it is understandable (i am friends w/ 3 foreign exchange students and i adore the way they speak) and condidering you have been in the states for 6 years, i am pretty sure you are understandable. accents are unique and show off who you really are. if these people are your true friends then they wouldnt laugh at the way you speak. maybe they are just the sarcastic types of people and they dont realize that laughing hurts you inside. Tell them how you fell and hopefully they will understand and stop. Dont change for other people. and you should speak up more often. you never know when something you say (in your superamazing accent) will change a persons life.
where are you from?

The more you use spoken English, the more likely it is that your accent will lesson.
A little good natured teasing is fine among friends, but it can be over done. Try to enjoy the joke too. I would guess that their speech is not always correct either.
You might try recording yourself and playing it back. You might notice how you can improve your pronunciations.
I am sure that you notice that there are a lot of accents here, both domestic and foreign. Do not be too hard on yourself.
A late: "Welcome to the USA".

well my 1st langauge is English, but i lived in the middle east for a long time and i developed an accent-- so i went back to the states and i didn't speak Arabic for 7 years and my Natural English came back.. sure alot of people made fun of me, but how could i learn if i kept slienet, now i'm an English teacher and if you don't speak you will not improve, if they make fun of you don't take it to heart, you cares as long as you're learning,, a good learner isn't scared of making mistakes! Trust me i would know, so what accent do you you?
Don't use "an" with excellent writing capabilities, because capabilities a a plural noun and we can't count writing!

there are a number of components that outline no remember if or no longer you will have the skill to lose it thoroughly. I got here to the U. S. at sixteen and at present maximum individuals can no longer hear an accessory when I communicate, although if some people say they hear it faintly. I used to have classes with a speech therapist in extreme college, yet what quite made the version grow to be prepare. i did no longer thoroughly lose touch with my unique tongue, yet i desperate to observe television in English and continuously communicate English till I felt I had mastered it. ultimately you would be so comfortable with English that, even the little accessory you have left won't difficulty you. reliable success!

I think accents are great! Don't go changing it. But if you really want it off, then either record someone talking in the accent you want and repeat it. Start off by singing in the accent.

Your friends are kind of immature if they keep making fun of the way you speak. Learning a new language and vernacular are not all that easy. Keep trying, it will become more natural to you as time goes on.

The key to pronouncing any language correctly is to use your lips, tongue, and palate to properly "shape" the sound as it comes out your mouth. You can find books in the ESL sections of bookstores that will show you diagrams of how to properly use the lips, tongue, and palate for achieving standard American English pronunciation.

Talk more, you can try enunciating your words at home. After a while your accent will remain a little bit, but just tell em to **** off if its bothering you.
