Every year my husband's mom and step-dad attaches a lottery ticket to one of our gifts and before we scratched them off his step-dad said "if anyone wins over $500 bucks they have to split it with me and laughed about it"

Well they all scratched theirs off and didn't win but i won $40.00 and all he said was you have to buy me a pack of cigerettes which i did.

Well last night when my husband went up there without me they were talking about that lottery ticket saying i should have gave them half but when they win they rub it in people's faces and do not share.

I mean it was a gift. I would have not acted that way. It makes me just want to hand them 40 bucks back. (They do this every year with lottery tickets and it is always them that wins but i did and it made them mad)

What would you do?

You shouldnt have even had to buy the packett of cigs!! Thats crap!! I would just ignore it, but if it gets brought up again, i would say "well, you guys said that we only have to split it if its over $500 - i bought you a pack of cigs, $40 isnt much, your lucky you got those!"

The gall of some people is unbelievable!!

I wouldn't scratch the tickets until later. Why would they think they should get any of it since it was a gift to you.Maybe next year buy them a lottery ticket but sign your name on it first and say "We can split the winnings"They should get the idea on the first ticket.

if i were in this situation, yeah i would buy them a pack of cigarettes but then i would told them straight up that it was a gift and that the $40 is mine fair and square and then remind them that the deal or whatever was that if it was over $500 it would be split then i would remind them about past years how they rub it in your face or what not and then walk off and spend the money on something nice :)

A gift is a gift. It is giving something without expecting something in return.

No strings attached.

If they wanted to scratch the tickets and bet their luck then let them. But if they gift a ticket to someone; then they choose not to bet their luck but gift it to someone else.

Why don't you guys just return the tickets back to them and let them scratch it. See if they like it.

I'd like you to give me half too but I'm not dumb enough to think you would. Look out for the BS if any of you ever win a big prize.

It's your time to shine enjoy your winnings and don't give them anything. Remind them they don't share when they win. I think that they use it as a good luck pattern and it backfired. Ha Ha!!

they are idiots...next year just put the ticket in your pocket and don't even give them the satisfaction of seeing if you won or not.
