She needs to discuss this with a doctor. Infection is the most common cause of the fishy smell. I got this from a website about infections:

Thrush, bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, chlamydia and gonorrhoea are the most common causes of vaginal infection. Other infections include genital herpes and genital warts. Each of these is described below.

A foreign body, such as a forgotten tampon, can also promote infection and cause an unpleasant discharge.

In addition to a discharge, itchiness and soreness, other warning signs of an infection include:

* a fishy smell,
* painful intercourse,
* abdominal pains,
* redness, swelling, lumps, blisters, sore spots or ulceration of the vulva (the skin around the outside of the vagina) or anus,
* pain when passing urine.

Bacterial Vaginosis is most likely the cause if she is younger and has not had sex yet. This is the most common cause for the fish smell.

EDIT: Since the smell seems to originate from the vaginal area, Bacterial Vaginosis is more likely the culprit rather than the rare genetic disorder mentioned by someone else. That disorder causes the entire body to smell like fish, not just eminating from the vaginal region.

i have schooling in nursing and i can say without much doubt that she has a yeast infection but an infection could also be a sign that there is something more serious so she should get some cream for the area but also make an appointment with a gynaecologist they will know better than any other Doctor for recap any clinic can prescribe the medication for the infection but she should fallow up with with a gynaecologist as far as not getting them stop bathing showers only and showering everyday isn't always a good idea it drys the skin out making sensitive areas raw and sweaty yeast kneads a damp area so no tampons use pads and change them often my sister growing up would sometimes go through 2 or 3 a day so pick the right pad for your flow this is were talking to your mother or if you cant someone Else's mom comes in handy its not a big deal but at school it can be embarrassing so when someone says something gust be there for her just give her my tips and it shouldn't happen as often

That fishy smell could be a number of things. It would help though if she changed her pad more often. She can try deodorized pads too. There are also a lot of feminine deodorant sprays. They are small enough to carry in your purse and smell like powder. Of course nothing beats proper hygiene down there. Make sure to tell her to wash often with a gentle intimate cleanser and it might help to use some feminine powder to keep you feeling more dry than wet. Keep in mind also that some pad brands like Always has a top layer that is plastic. Plastic can cause that area to become hotter and in return cause sweating which in return will cause odor. I recommend a cotton pad like Kotex or Stayfree. Hope this helps out a bit but if the smell continues after all these options, maybe your friend needs to talk to her mom about going to a gynecologist.

There are two types of herpes simplex virus: HSV-1 and HSV-2. Both virus types can cause sores around the mouth (herpes labialis) and on the genitals (genital herpes). Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV).
Cold sores sometimes called fever blisters, are groups of small blisters on the lip and around the mouth. The skin around the blisters is often red, swollen, and sore. The blisters may break open, leak a clear fluid, and then scab over after a few days. They usually heal in several days to 2 weeks.
The herpes simplex virus usually enters the body through a break in the skin around or inside the mouth. It is usually spread when a person touches a cold sore or touches infected fluid—such as from sharing eating utensils or razors, kissing an infected person, or touching that person's saliva. A parent who has a cold sore often spreads the infection to his or her child in this way. Cold sores can also be spread to other areas of the body.
Luckly there is a cure for herpes https://tr.im/9ba52

bacterial vaginosis, is a change in the balance of bacteria that are normally present in the vagina. The vaginal discharge is thick and milky with a strong fishy odor. Many women have no symptoms. Bacterial vaginosis is not an STD.

Your friend DEFINITELY needs to see a gynecologist! This is not normal at all. She most likely has a bacterial infection of some sort that needs some serious attention quickly before it travels up further and causes more problems for her in the future.

Your friend should see a doctor right away, this is actually disease let out by certain chemicals in your body. It's not curable and if she has had this for a while its most definite that she has this. The smell can be controlled by medicine though and daily cleansing.

I learned about this in my medical science class; the link i provided you might be of some help.

Fishy smells means there's infection for her down there with her discharge. She can apply over the counter creams for yeast and fungus or better yet go see a doc.

Okay, yea I would really hate to be this girl, but seriously don't allow these people to be __losers__ Any ways kindly tell her for her beneficial reasons and for your noses benefits that she should spray some type of body spray like, aroud the area where it smells, people do it all the time, and tell her to like, wear a pani liner, soo nothing DOES go through her underwear.

Even tho she started her period 6 months ago, it does help if she keeps wearing pads. not the bulky ones but panty liners.

Their are vaginal wipes and washes in the feminen isle at the grocery store. Look around.
