Yes it is illegal. Reason is that the vehicle or cycle is being used in a matter that it was designed for. Example, putting a cycle on 1 wheel when it is designed to be driven on 2 wheels. Or, the officer can also site you for reckless endangerment, reckless driving, improper lane usuage, obstructing traffic, etc. etc. If you were to get the motor vehicle code book from your state on all the rules and regulations you would panic. I could buy a brand new car and be driving off the car dealers lot and get pulled over by an officer and believe it or not he could find something in the motor vehicle code book to give me a ticket for. So be nice and hopefully he will cut you a break - maybe he will have a flash back to when he was younger and some of the stuff he did growing up.....

How To Do Motorcycle Stunts

Yes it is illegal to do ":wheelies" or any other stunts on the street. You would be ticketed for "reckless" driving" which carries a heavy fine and jail time, your bike would be impounded and very expensive to get out of impound. If anyone were injured while you were doing stunts, you would be charged with a felony, which means a $10,000 fine and at least a year in prison and up to 10 years is possible. Save it for the dirt, or the track.

Depending on what your local laws state, doing any stunt (including wheelies) can be considered the unsafe operation of a motor vehicle, possibly reckless driving (but the later maybe a little harder to prove in court).

It also depends on what kind of stunt you are doing, as certain stunts are a clear violation of the law. For example, burnouts, even reving of an engine can easily be considered display of speed, it can also be considered a speed contest, etc. again depending on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

I executed a small wheelie that a cop saw, I was going 15mph. I got a 6 point ticket. The same ticket had my front wheel come down on and squished the head of a baby.

previous posts are correct. It is illegal unless you are on a closed circuit/course. There are no stunts you could perform in traffic without "reckless endangerment" of you or others. Unless you drive without any hands. Thats not relaly illegal but I wouldn't recomend it. Im sure a cop would give you a warning and try to force a ticket on you for something.

You would probably also lose insurance coverage if any damage occurred while stunting -- for your motorcycle or any liability involving 3rd parties. At least this is the case in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Automobile Accident Insurance Act (of Saskatchewan)
section 38(3)(b.1)
section 42(1)(h.1)

I always kept my tomfoolery limited mostly to private property such as shopping center parking lots. I had a fearless riding buddy who did wheelies in front of the local highway patrol post's commander. One day, he was spotted by the commander, who was coming home from work. My buddy pulled over and quickly whipped out out a wrench and started to "adjust his clutch". He explained that something was wrong with the clutch and had caused the sudden and unexpected wheelie! I believe the commander thought that was the silliest thing he had ever heard and let my buddy off.

Yes, it's illegal to do stunts on a motorcycle on a street. Depending on the state, it could be reckless endangerment, exhibition of speed, or any number of crimes.

This depends on your location. In the U.S.A. I believe it is illegal in all states.

One of my boys does stunting, but we have use of a parking lot during off hours for that purpose. He doesn't do it on the public roads --- at least he better not.

Places like Malaysia you can probably get away with it --- Mat Rempit and all that you know.

Stunting can be done responsibly. Find a place like a parking lot. Make sure you are wearing gear. And never do it alone.
