I don't have a problem with service people because of my age, I have it with garage mechanics and male sales people (esp car salesmen) assuming that just because I am female, I don't know anything. And my husband can come in and ask the same damn questions, and get treated like he is part of the club, so to speak. And they look at him instead of me when I try to tell them what my problem is, and answer HIM instead of me. GRRRRR.

I think this question can be looked at from both sides. I'm in a service industry of sorts, and my gripe is that people can be incredibly rude to me, and then expect me to be grovellingly nice to them in return. I'm only human, and despite the fact that I am being paid to do my job, its nice to have some mutual respect and civility going on,too.
I get fed up in shops when the employees ignore me when I'm standing right in front of them, obviously hoping for some service....these days I'm a bit more assertive than in previous times, and tend to say "would you like to serve me please?"....at least I know where I stand then. If they still ignore me I take my business elsewhere.

People that ignore you like your not even there.
People that are chatting on their cell phone, or talking to their co-workers, when they should be working.
You wonder how any work even gets done during the day, with all the commiserating that's being done.
You ask them a question and they give you a blank stare, because they do not have the answer but they work there and should. Rudeness!!!!

It seems like more and more these days, a lot of people in customer service, etc. are inept. People used to take pride in their jobs. Anymore half of them don't follow through when they tell you they will do something for you. You call back a week later, and nothing has been done. People just don't have the work ethics that previous generations had.

Service? What service?! Our biggest problem is with checkout operators who whizz our shopping through really quickly and don't ask if we want help with packing (which they are supposed to ask because it is their policy....there are signs up in the shop saying it is) and then huff, puff and raise their eyes to the heavens because we aren't packing as quickly as she/he would like us to. Has anyone tried packing shopping whilst trying not to drop elbow crutches - it's not easy! Then when it comes to paying for it, having the change and receipt plonked into my hand, altogether, and watching me struggle with seperating the change from the receipt to put into my purse, whilst still trying to, desperately, keep hold of my elbow crutches so that they don't fall off AND she/he is putting the next customers shopping through before we've completely finished packing!! There are one or two members of staff in our local Tesco who do this regularly....on the wholl the majority of staff are very helpful but all it takes is the one or two who aren't to put you off that shop.
Being treated like a half-wit because we are disabled can be rather annoying too but that's not half as bad as when I'm in my wheelchair which I have to use occasionally.....having someone expecting Tc to have the money to pay instead of me paying now that really get's my goat lol. Thankfully I haven't had to use my w/chair much this year.
Don't know what people's attitudes are towards disabled people in other countries is like but here in the UK (England) is is deplorable.
We've also found that age plays a part in the level of customer service....older staff have a better attitude towards customers than younger ones and the older teens/early 20's are definately needing a bit of training in customer service!!

My boyfriend and I went shopping, so I could get a new monitor and printer. I had the cash. We stopped at several places and I would always ask the saleman questions that I had, and they always started talking to my boyfriend when giving their answers. I finally had enough and told the salesman that we do not live together, and he had just missed out on a cash sale because he couldn't be considerate enough to direct his answers to the person who asked. It is like they think women are clueless or aren't even there at times.

People in stores who don't know the merchandise. People who can't make change. Store clerks who yak on their cell phones instead of doing their jobs. Clerks who act bored to death instead of caring about their work. It shows. Service people who don't return calls, so that you have to call them back and go through those annoying push button phone calls all over again. Don't get me started on that.

Cashier's who can not make change. Order takers who do not give me what I ordered, and then give me attitude when I request what I ordered. Anyone in customer service person who can not stay off of the cell phone long enough to transact business with me. Maybe I am being too picky.

Most of them do not like to provide real "service". Everything is automated - the personal (as in human being) angle is missing!
