My father is on his 3rd A8L. They are a dream to drive. Based on my experience driving it, my dream car is the S4 or, less realistically, the RS4. The AWD is more important than many people seem to appreciate, especially if you live in an area that receives snowfall. Add to that the sporty factor and you have a great car.

I have never driven an S4, but I do own a '07 RS4 and it has to be the nicest ride I have ever owned. And I agree with the other poster: they are not made to drag race but are open road cars. Mine is a dream on the mountain roads where I live in Germany. I can keep up with motorcycles on the turns and twists; the AWD is great.
Am I the fastest car on the road? No, no one really is, there is always something out there faster. And the '09 BMW M3 is a tad faster and more powerful. But it does not have AWD and I will have to wait and see how it compares to mine.
My friend drives a '08 BMW 335i and it is a nice car. Not in the same league as an S4 or RS4 though, in my opinion. He took the badges off, and here there are so many BMWs on the autobahn a person has to really know their cars to tell what it is.
Maintenance costs? No more than my other cars so far (fingers crossed.)
In my opinion, Audi, great car company, great products if a bit pricey new. Great all around touring car. I've gone from Bremerhaven to Stuttgart with mine and had a blast.

Well Audi cars have a nice design. They are pretty original. Not like a Lexsucks, Infiniti or Acura. they all looks like clones and they are trying to copy BMW and Benz in a big way. The biggest problem I ever had with my dad's Audi was the technicians. Is hard to find a decent one. For some reason each time we came with the Audi most places look at it like it was a strange bird. I knew more about the car than most of the techs.

Beside that, I love how it handle and ride. Do not be fooled by the slower than this, faster than that. The car is designed for the Autobahn. If you ever been in Germany, is not what people say it is. Is like driving on the best Hwy in the USA. So is not a race track. The cars does not need to be supper fast from 0-60, is not a drag race. Is more of an endurance test. Like 24 hrs of Le Mans. You drive long distances at a recommended speed of 80MPH or 130KPH. That is what is all about. People in the USA think that a car is better if you car drag race other from light to light. Who cares? The S4 is a sport car and is not a race car. So is supposed to give you a sport ride not a dragster ride. If I am driving one and one of those typical Lexsucks owners stop by me, I let it go, why I need to show off to a moron...

They are very fast and fun to drive. I like the way they drive.
The 1999-2001 S4 has a twin turbo V6 engine and it goes from 0-60 in 5.6 seconds.
The 2002-2008 S4 has a V8 engine and goes from 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. They are great cars, but they are expensive to maintain because they are German cars. Insurance is high too because it is a sports luxury car.
They are AWD and there main competitor is the BMW 335i and M3
The 2008 M3 was upgraded to a V8 engine and competes with the 2006-2008 Audi RS4. The Audi RS4 is the ultimate Audi Sedan. It is faster than the BMW M3 and M5. The RS4 has a 420HP V8 engine.

I'd get a used S4 before I paid for a new one. I love Audi design inside and out more than BMW and Mercedes, but their new cars are much slower and down on power compared to the competition. Its really, really bad. A V6 Lexus GS/BMW 5/etc is quicker than Audi A6 with a V8. I'd get a new M3 or C63 before a new S4, but I'd get a used S4 for 33k in a heartbeat.

Great Car... I keep hearing myths about the parts being so expensive.. The simplicity of the matter is, Audi compared to any other domestic car, hardly ever breaks down but when it does, you may pay more for the parts. This is true but only if you take your car directly to the dealership. Consider taking your car to a good and reputable German mechanic and save the money.
