This would be sorta like those kleenex commercials. Baiscally I would just sit there and let people talk about...whatever. If they are stressed, or just want to have someone listen to them, or need a shoulder to cry on, or just feel like talking to someone new. Everything would be completely confidential. I know My university has peer counseling programs, but those seem so official, this would be a very low-key way to do it. Do you think it would work? Or am I simply dreaming?

I am not sure if "therapy" is the right word. I am just a student, althougth I plan to become a professional therapist. I have some experiance in the field (volunteer work and training) but mostly I just thought it would be cool for people who wanted someone who was more like a friend than a "therapist" to talk to. My friends say that going to the official school counselors feels like going to confession or something. I just thought it might be a nice thing for people to have, because people need to talk...and I love to listen.

great! yes it will work!

I'm a peer counselor as well and we have done the same thing. you know, go out to the street, see the real life, and just sit there, listen to people. tap someone at the back when you see them so down. this is the essence of peer counseling. people need us. wow, we are one in this project!

good luck! have a nice day!

There are many things we do during the day that are philanthropic and good even though not sanctioned or official. One of those that helps us in the infrastructure of every social network is precisely the spiritually based ideas of the regular citizens who do socially constructive work such as listening to the other people who do need such people to go to all the time. I understand this and have been doing this all my life so... good luck and keep up the good spirit and work. You are one of those unspoken heroes that every civilization depends upon to help grow in the right direction.

i dont know. i may do it, only if i were alone and no one else would hear me. i know tht i am an extremely troubled teen and need someone to talk to. if had no relation to you, and would never see you again ,then yes, i would talk. i am sure there may be others like me out there as well.

Do you have any counseling experience? It's different from talking to a friend.
