I have 17 fish and I love taking pictures, but I was wondering if it could have any dangerous affect on them. Could it hurt them?

The chances of the flash hurting your fish is almost zero... While I have found that it's much easier to turn the tank lights on, the room lights off, and avoid using flash (as it often makes a nasty glare, regardless of angle), I have used flash, and my fish really didn't take notice... If you have success using flash, more power to you!

EDIT: Fish have very advanced memories, which is why they remember their owner and get "excited" when they see him/her, knowing they will be fed. It is also why fish can stake out their own territory. If the flash scared them badly enough, they would hide from you every time you walked up to the tank, and from my fish, I can see that they obviously don't care too much about the flash...

I dont think it is dangerous for them but it probably scares them. I would set the flash setting to something other than solar flare(like my mom's is set on lol).

Nope. Won't effect them. Try reflecting the light using a bright plastic or a mirror even...
