Generally speaking...obviously both have their pros and cons.

I personally enjoy reading books, book reading is something that you can do by yourself anywhere and anytime. It gives you the chance to form your own picture of the characters in the book and to at times lose yourself as the character you are reading about, reading is to me a private matter that i enjoy, though I like sharing my thoughts and hearing others opinions of the book. Movies are enjoyable but the personal experience is not the same as it is, when I read a book.

Movies are great. You can take in a whole story in 2 hours, give or take. Great entertainment. Of course I like them.

However, some stories are far better read. despite many attempts, H. G. Wells' War of the Worlds in film form can never capture the imagination in the original 1899 novel.

Other writers like Steinbeck, R. L. Stevenson, etc, etc. While having had some good film adaptations of their books, The pictures in ones mind are far better from reading the book.

oooooh, i love movies but honestly nothing beats a really good book. but here's the problem with books. first off, i have trouble finding them. so i get frustrated looking for books i might enjoy. also i hate to invest time reading a book only to be disappointed with it. but if the book turns out to be really good it's kinda bad too cause then once i finish it i don't know what to do with myself. i know it's all over & it's gonna be a while til i find another really good one.
