How do you actually start the patent process for free and where do I go?

You need a Patent Attorney. They are very, very, expensive.

If you have friends that work in a law firm, ask if you can talk to their patent attorney, for free adivce, about what you want to patent.

Do NOT confuse patent with Trademark.
They are NOT the same.

Go to pto.gov,
The patent and trademark website, for the USA.

Make sure you can afford to bankroll whatever you want to patent.
