Got a new laptop for Christmas. Want to transfer pictures and mp3s from old computer. I have a wireless router with 4 ports. Is putting everything on a shared folder and accessing that folder through the network the best way to transfer files? I would connect to the network with ethernet cables, not wirelessly. Thanks!

If I were you id buy some cds and just burn all your data files to cd then transfer them that way. Using the share folder will take forever. if you don’t have a cd burner you can

step 1 - get an "external enclosure" on eBay for like 15 dollars.
step2 - put your old “IDE” hard drive inside the external enclosure.
step3 – connect the external device to your new computer via USB.
step4 – upload all your files onto your new computer.

by doing this you can transfer data much faster and continue getting use out of that hard drive as an external hard drive / back up device. It’s really easy to do even if you know nothing about computers Enjoy.

It would be tedious if your going to use the CD and burn it. Sharing the file folder is more easier and convenient. You can simply just copy and paste. drag and copy.
