Your Apex Seals are shot, time for a rebuild. Kevin at RotaryResurrection is very experienced in rebuilding the 13B and can do so relatively cheap. Be sure to read the information present on the site before sending him an email.

You need a good diagnosis.

A regular compression gauge won't work because each rotor has three faces, and three apex seals. If *one* seal goes, you lose compression in two adjacent combustion chambers. You'll need an RX-7 shop that has the right compression tester.

I suspect you do have some compression, just not enough to start and run. Some hints might be oil on top of the motor. Are you dripping oil?? As long as the motor's good, it shouldn't leak. If it's leaking oil, there's a good chance your apex seals are shot.

Repairs are possible, but you've got to find the right shop. The excellent shop that rebuilt my Ford can rebuild any motor except the rotary RX-7. Depending on where you live, you may have to take your car some distance to get it rebuilt.

Another alternative is a replacement motor. I got a used one with a lot of risk. My son and I swapped motors by renting an engine hoist and did the job in a weekend. However, this takes you to "Where's a reliable vendor?" territory, and this, too, depends on where you are.

The site below has a lot of forums (fora?) that might help you.

Last bit of advice- a car has three parts: the inside, the outside, and the running gear. If one is shot, the car may be worth repairing. If two or more are shot, it's a money pit and better be an expensive classic or you won't see your money again. From what you've said, you're looking at $2500-$3500 for a replacement motor. You gotta decide if your car is worth this expense. Me, I like to keep my cars running, but I'm not you.

Rx7 Compression Test

Well you need to find out is it valves or rings.
Here is what to do.
First hold the throttle all the way to the floor and with a compression gage see what the reading is.
Next pour a tea spoon of oil in the cylinder, and run the test again.
It the there is no some compression then it is rings as the oil has seeped down along side the rings and sealed the ring.
If the reading is the same it is a bad valve, as the oil will not seal the valves.

Been down this road several times myself.

You have one or more blown Apex Seals.

It is time for a new motor. Don't think about rebuilding it. On average you need 4-5 decent cores to come out with 1 rebuilt rotary engine at the end. Just get a crate motor.

It's a rotary engine. Chances are very ggod that the APEX seals are shot. complete rebuild. That's why every RX you see for sale says fresh rebuilt engine. They def. don't last long when used for high performance applications. Also why they are not used by any other company.

Could be a number of things-- bad rings, burnt valves, bad head gaskets, cracked heads, If u have no compression on any cylinder then u had better tear it down and rebuild it. Or have it rebuilt.

no or very low compression? sounds like rebuild time! either that or just get a new engine.
