Honestly, only in San Francisco would people howl over that. Ridiculous. A homicidal tiger is on the loose, has just killed a boy, and the first thing on their mind is "Don't kill the tiger, sedate it!"
Yes, exactly, why doesn't the US army just sedate the terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan? Who needs guns, SARCASM.
News flash people, the tiger would have been destroyed even if it were sedated. This tiger might have charged the police too, who knows if the tranquilizer would have been effective to take it down immediately.

This would never have happened in Texas... But the naive goons would still have said the same thing.
sedate the maneating tiger because it's endangered.... Ha!
Hats off to the officers who shot it. Can you imagine? I'd want that tiger to be chopped up into a million pieces if it killed my boy; I wouldn't even care if it was the last one alive.

Sorry, I don't agree with you. From what I read the police saw the tiger by a body and called it to distract it's attention. True they had no idea how many others had been hurt, but I still feel tranquilizer should have been used. This type of tiger is endangered, according to Jack Hanna there are less than 600 in the world.
Also it's suspected these people were taunting the animal, and that it was virtually impossible for it to jump an 18 ft moat filled with 20 ft of water. Hanna claims animals kept in captivity don't have the same running or jumping ability as those still in the wild.
I'm sorry these people were killed and maimed, but it's a wild animal..and knows no better.

The police responded to an emergency in progress. They knew at least one person was in a bad way because the Tiger was sitting by the body. It started to chew on the body and the police tried to distract it. It came after them, they had no choice but to neutralize it. The police did not know how many were hurt, did not know how many animals were loose. They searched the entire park looking for injured people and other animals. They found 2 other people and no other animals. The police did what had to be done. They were brave in an extreme crisis.

I do not have strong feelings about the tiger being shot, but come on now it is not like the tiger planned this attack. If the zoo is dumb enough to let other wild animals out they too will kill people just by their instinct.

Tranquilizing an animal serves one purpose, to save the life of the animal. There were probably no trained experts on the scene to prescribe a dose of tranquilizer, assuming they had tranquilizer at hand. Overdosing would not stop the animal on time but kill the animal (why then not just use a gun?). I think the officers acted appropriately for what the had.

The tiger wasn't doing anything wrong. It was a tiger being a tiger. Animals in zoos are not like domestic animals. That's why they're kept in cages away from the public. They are wild and can engage in unpredictable behavior. If they escape, they are not going to act friendly and want you to pet them, especially if they are frightened. Tigers do sometimes kill people and it's too bad but it's in their nature. They are predators and hunt other animals.

Alright, well then lets lock you up in a cage with surreal surroundings and have millions of people come and gawk at you... And then when you escape and your so pissed about being locked up for so long, that you get mad....
We'll f*cking shoot you too.
Oh Oh.... and then we'll start asking questions that say things like....
Can you believe the people who say the San Francisco zoo man should have been tranquilized and not shot?

The police did the right thing! No one I know wanted the brute to live after killing one young man and SERIOUSLY injuring two youn g brothers. Such a terifying tradgedy. There is alot more here than has been told. If you have ever visited that zoo, you'd know it is not possible for that cat to get out without help.

In a situation like this who gives a fat rat about the tiger--People first, animals second. I think the policemen acted appropriately before more people were killed or harmed.
