Recently the Conservative-Republican party has lost its place in American politics. Now we see administration running up deficits, starting wars and bald face lying to the people.

What ever happened to limited government?

What ever happened to cutting departments, reducing spending and taxes like Reagan did?

What ever happened to the honesty Lincoln held?

What ever happened to the vision of the founding fathers (very conservative by today's definitions) of liberty, both personally and economically?

I supported the Democrats in 2006. The war, I realized, has done more harm than good. A million innocent Iraqis - dead.

I feel betrayed by the Democratic party. They have done nothing - no bills, not even discussions - for ending our invasion overseas.

What ever happened to Conservatism?

In my opinion I believe the modern conservative movement has been hi-jacked by a group called the "neo-conservatives." The neo-Conservatives believe in high spending by borrowing money and cutting taxes at the same time. Also believing in a foreign policy that would make Woodrow Wilson proud (nation building).

Traditional conservatives such as Barry Goldwater and Robert Taft wanted government out of peoples' lives. Robert Taft even went as far as not wanting the US to join NATO at the start of the Cold War.

This is why I say to some liberals that the democratic party didnt gain the majority in 2006 because people had switchec ideologies. Some of them were just disappointed in the alleged conservatives and wanted to try something new. Or perhaps to 'punish' the republicans for not adhering to promises etc..

What you say is an example of this.

I say forget parties, you have to look at the individual. Not everyone in the Republican party is a conservative, not everyone in the Democratic party is a liberal, typically its the rule, but there are exceptions.

It appears that leadership in these parties ( the ones that really control them ) become largely the same as far as fiscal issues are concerned at least.
Democratic partied being led by far lefties and Republican party leadership being led by moderates perhaps.
Not much of a real conservative in control.

I believe real conservatism (not this mock conservatism we've had pretty much since Reagan left office, also know as moderate republicanism/ neoconservatives/ Rockefeller republicanism) is making a strong come back. There is a conservative uprising afoot.

Honest1.... Warren Buffet? A true American? Yea right! The only reason that schmuck supports the "death tax" is it allows him to buy up businesses hit hard by it. To increase his greed.

Conservatism is being defeated on all specific issues, as it always is, but the lack of a clear definition of principles and mission statement are enabling its followers to deny responsibility for what they have done as conservatism continues to mutate into something they find more palatable.

I pay attention you! I even have been asserting for an prolonged time that we want a clean social gathering. Too many politicians are apprehensive approximately getting votes particularly of being steadfast in what they even have self assurance in. yet another subject is that many electorate are too questioning approximately what's in it for them particularly of what's going to be good for the rustic in the long term. as quickly as we finally do get somebody to run who seems to have the ideal suggestions the electorate brush them off by employing asserting... the candidate is "too a approaches available" for my section we want a candidate that isnt worried approximately getting votes as much as getting our country straightened out. i could vote for that man or woman in a heartbeat whether it means doing without for some years to make it take place. I dont think of human beings in many situations relatively care approximately what's good for day after today as long as they're getting what they prefer right this moment. possibly this is harsh, I dont understand, even though it is the way I see it. EDIT: Dutch, I dont think of he develop into asserting he didnt like Reagan. What he suggested develop into real approximately Reagan giving amnesty. i think of Reagan develop into between the ideal presidents ever.... yet there have been some issues that weren't in undemanding terms conservative too and thats why he gained over sooo many democrats. no longer asserting it develop right into a bad ingredient the two. we want a uniter like him lower back.

That is what happens when you trust the Democratic party. Conservatism is alive and well across America. Just ask the people in Iowa and Texas, and they will tell you that.

Oh and the 1 million dead Iraqies, recheck your figures, it is way off.

Reducing spending like Reagan??

Maybe spending on the needy. But overall levels of spending rose very much during the Reagan years.

What happened to conservatism started with Reagan. Not only did he, as Cheney said, show that "deficits don't matter", but he invited in the Religious Right. That's when they became Big Government Conservatives, seeing the opportunity to engage in right-wing Social Engineering.

Keep in mind both were shot!!! Funny thing is they were both Aquarians(astrology speaking) as well. I admire both presidents you mentioned, but i truly admire Reagan, always have. but not for the same reasons most everybody else does. I see alot of the same qualities he had in a current candidate running right now. And that candidate is Ron Paul.

Reagan showed us an open door back in the 80's, we need to change the burnt out light bulb so we can see again to find our way.

As someone explained to me yesterday..............its the differences between the classes. That the middle class is being squeezed out of existence......in favor of the elites over the lower class.
Fortunately we have a few true Americans like Warren Buffet who think of the good of the nation by supporting the Liberal side!

It ended with Reagan. Although Ronald was largely incapacitated with the early stages of Alzheimer's throughout most of his time in office ,Nancy did a nice job of running the country with the help of her astrologers.
