I'm planning on getting a 6 gallon tank to put in my bedroom. I would like to have a male betta and possibly a couple other fish (enough to provide more than one fish to look at but not too many so that the tank is crowded) what will get a long and fit??

6 gallons is a bit small, so your options are really limited... You could try 3 Pygmy Cories, which will stay small enough to feel comfortable in such a small tank, and they will have no issues with the Betta. That would really be as much as you could keep, and you would need to be sure to do weekly water changes to keep their water clear of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate (all byproducts of fish waste and decomposing food). Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

EDIT: Bettas are not overly aggressive; they are territorial towards other Bettas and fish that look like Bettas. As long as you have fish with short fins, you're absolutely fine.

EDIT 2: Normal Guppies could potentially work, but Fancy Guppies have long tails that, in a small tank, can quickly draw attention... Also, if you buy female Guppies from the store, you are almost guaranteed to have pregnant fish (they can store sperm for months and have multiple batches of fry from one insemination), which leads to MANY fish... If you want a midlevel fish, consider 3-4 Cherry Barbs... They are VERY peaceful and should have no trouble at all with your Betta.

I have a 60 gal with some blood parrots, fancy guppies, black moor, and one male beta. Despite popular belief males betas can be kept with not only other fish, but also with each other. They just need a big enough tank to establish territory. 6 gallons might be too small for any other fish, it all depends on the beta really, some are more aggressive than others. You could maybe try a couple guppies, but make sure they're the same sex because they breed like crazy! If you could get a 10 gallon instead that would be great, way less likely to be aggressive. Good luck!

IN PET STORES YOU SEE THEM SOLD IN PLASTIC CUPS WITH A COUPLE AIR HOLES IN THE TOP OF THE LID BECAUSE THEY'RE SOLITARY FISH AND THEY ARE VERY AGGRESSIVE AND WILL KILL OR EVEN EAT OTHER FISH IF PLACED IN THE SAME TANK.
