I'm actually posting this for my brother as a little evidence to use in an arguement with his wife... Here's the setup. Their child was very close to her grandpa. Grandpa died, years have passed. Now, the family of Grandpa have decided to buy him a new tombstone and wants to have a picture of the granddaughter (living -age 12) with her deceased grandfather etched onto the tombstone. What do you think? My brother is asking your advice. Thanks!

The daughter knows there is a disagreement, and we are trying to not put her in a position of choosing sides.

Frankly .. I would not want my daughter's picture there.

For the people who are still living -- this could be just toooo eerie to see. Having to look at their daughter's picture already on a tombstone would be very upsetting.

The relationship between the child & her Grandpa will always exist & live on. The picture is not necessary.

The tombstone should be about the Grandpa personally.

I just think it could tear out a Mother & Father's heart to have to look at that tombstone with their daughter's picture on it ... probably just couldn't ever look at it.

It is very insensitive of the spouse's family to want to do this if it would bother any living member. Also - the 12 year old might not say so -- but it might affect her, too.

I really don't see anything wrong with this, but at the same time it sounds
kinda creepy. I also think it would be kinda nice to have a picture of the
two together, but at the same time it might offend someone. It is some-
thing that the family should talk about and get serious input. Ask the
granddaughter how she feels?

Absolutely NOT!!!! The grandfather is dead; he doesn't need a photo of the little girl because he won't be able to see it anyway. Also, graveyards are public places - would you put up your child's photo in a public place without a very good reason? I don't think so. And on a tombstone? Gee, that's just plain creepy.

Yes that would be okay look at it this way ask the 12 year old what she thinks.... If she says ok then .......ok if not you are the parent!!!!!! and the answer would be no....

Let the brother know if the child says no she's a minor child and he's has major legal rights you don't put a minors picture on anything that they say no to.... Oh and hand cuffs fit most people (LOL)

i think that the daughter in question is old enough to have an opinion about this. if the said grandpa had a good relationship with the daughter and visa versa than..why not. It is a way to commemerate their relationship. Right now, it is really only about the daughters feeling, no one elses. it was her relationship and her picture that will be etched in stone.

in other words.....ask her.

I dont see anything wrong with it. I hope to not be in the position to buy a tombstone in the near future, but I dont see the harm in it.

I wouldn't!!! I got angry enough when I found out one of my husbands nieces put our boys pictures on-line and nobody told me about it!! You never know who is going to see that picture, plus I don't think it's fair to make a child pick between her parents.

There's so much potential for psychological harm in doing that if the girl is not 100% okay with it.

She must be totally okay with it and not just doing it because so-and-so will be glad she did.
