Stop talking to her for awhile.

Everyone has problems, some are just more obvious than others. I think she is doing this because she has a low self esteem. There are two strategies I think you can use to help get her out of this habit:

Strategy #1: Beat her to the punch. When she does do something amazing, pay her a compliment. If she looks smokin' hot one day, let her know you noticed. She is probably bragging to reassure herself more than anyone around her, so if you are reassuring her of her own self worth, she'll be a lot less prone to her boastful behavior.

Strategy #2: When she does say something boastful, ignore her, or change the subject. Don't try to get into a bragging contest, that will only add fuel to the fire. Just try to drop it, or quickly change the subject. This will let her know that you don't want to hear about her all the time...or at least it should.

Last Resort: If you've tried both of the above, it's time to get everything out in the open. Confront your friend privately and list off a few of her best traits. Then gently and kindly explain to her how it bothers you and others that she feels the need to brag about herself so frequently. Tell her that she needs to understand that she is a valued friend and a special person in her own way, and that she doesn't need to remind everyone all the time. Hopefully that will do the trick. Wish you the best!

Change the subject. If that doesn't work then you may have to come out and tell them that all the bragging is taking all the fun out of your visits. Then say if the bragging doesn't stop then you will be forced to find other friends that aren't so self centered.

I have a friend like that. Does she also do the 'whatever you say I will top that' routine? Gets on my nerves everytime.

I usually show a complete lack of interest in what she is saying when she keeps bragging. Just give a disinterested 'uh-huh' and eventually with no feedback she gets bored with talking about herself and stops.

Hi Allison, I would hate that my self. Just tell her if she wants to brat about her self all the time to book some time on the 6:00 news and then walk away. People like this always think their are better than anyone else.

Ok i have the same friend. It just depends on if shes nice to you or not. If shes nice to you then let her brag at least she has a kind heart. If shes a biitch that steals your boys all the time. Ignore her or change subjects.

Every time she starts bragging, just stop talking and stare at her - basically let the conversation fall to a dead silence.

Advise her that her bragging on herself is not what GOD would want her to do. Although she may have "it" today, it could be gone tomorrow. Let her know that it is ok to be proud of yourself, but be humble that she is blessed with whatever she is blessed with.

How dull for you. If she is doing this all the time, she's not a friend and you won't be able to stop her without offending her. You are the only one who will listen. Stop.

I have had a few friends like that and honestly all i did was just listen. I know
it can get a little hard, but you can tolerate it... all you need to do is listen..
Be cool about it and don't be rude...

Change the topic with:

'did you hear the news..' or 'wait, lets do this...' Or simply cut by saying you have to leave.

If you dare to go the extra mile, be blunt-honest-respectful and express your feelings...

good luck!
