And... is it more petty to be mad at the person for refusing to say these things or more petty to refuse to say them?

Someone close to you... an adult, not someone young.

yeah it would bother me, but i do two things when that happens, i either won't do things for them that i would expect them to say please, thank you, or excuse me or i will say "thank you Neev(that's me)" or "excuse you" or wait till they say please. they obviously need help with their manners.

I wouldn't be too bothered, but I would understand why others might be.
It's both petty to be mad for that and petty for refusing to be polite, as well. If I had to choose, I would say it's more petty to be impolite.
I mean come on, it's minimal politeness to say please, thank you, and excuse me. It's not too hard, is it?

I had a friend who was always so polite and kind. His etiquette rubbed off on me, so that I always remembered to add "please" after every sentence. It also kind of made me feel guilty how polite he was compared to me though. (x

Yes, and it's more petty to be mad at the person, some people just don't realize that they are suppose to say those things,

My grandkids often refuse to give polite response.

I guess I'll keep 'em anyway.

look if a five year old is willing to do so and to total strangers then a teenager, semi adult should be able to do also....that is one of my biggest pet peeves is people being so dang rude.

Yes, it would bother me. It means that they don't have respect in you. Specially the "excuse me."
