Well, competition is a driving factor in many aspects of social interaction, as well as in the natural world, but I don't think that reason is totally accurate. It's hard for older women for many reasons -- because getting older means becoming less attractive, less appreciated, less likely to find lasting love (or so it feels), less a lot of things that are great about youth and much on what identity is based. When men go for younger women, for older women, it can be like a rude reminder of what they were or never will be. Seeing men with younger women may also remind women of unfair double standards which they have been dealing with, in many forms, their whole lives. Finally, (though these are not the only reasons at all, but pretty widely-felt) women feel sorry for the younger ones who get stuck with some old, calculating man whom is probably purposefully going for a lady because he thinks he can control her, he has many up on her, and/or he has very superficial reasons. Of course age does not determine how lovely or interesting you can be, but I do believe that women get better with age intellectually, and hopefully they develop more of an idea of what they want and what they'll tolerate. Men sometimes do not want to deal with a woman who makes demands of them, has opinions, or may be smarter than they are. Older women, actually all women, find this extremely annoying. It can even cause bitterness.

I'd say that's a fair statement.
We live in a competitive world.
As for myself, when I was younger I dated and married men, that were ten to fifteen years older than I was, I always felt the older women resented or didn't like me. Now I'm older, although I'm not (old) old yet. However, I'm a really confident woman, and I don't feel threatened by younger women, except in the instance of the realization I simply cannot compete in that I will never look 20 years old again....but other than that, I don't feel like they have anything on me.
I have learned something really important as I've grown older .....I relied much too much on being pretty to get me by, if I had it to do over again, I'd have spent a great deal more time developing my character, and working on my education.........because what I know now is that youth is fleeting.............and if I had known then what I know now I would have been insulted that men were only interested in my pretty face and nice body, back then I thought it was a compliment.

When I was younger, I lived with a man for 8 yrs that was a bit older than my mother, having a daughter older than myself.

Now that I am older myself, I see what a pervert he really was. Basically preying on younger woman he could better manipulate.

Don't assume older woman view it as competion. Some simpley know whats really on your mind. I would by far consider that something we'd want to compete over with the young or the old. Some simpley think you should remain alone or in a corner until your thoughts can mature along with the rest of you.

Chosing your woman with one component in mind certainly does not make you a wise man. It just makes you a fool we can better see. It also leaves you basically to younger ones who haven't quite figured it all out yet. So I'd say you really at this point don't have that much of a choice. Your likely much better suited for the immature.

I obviously have no problem with the age differences. I just have a problem with self centered idiots who make silly claims to justify what they do rather than be a man and stand up to their own actions/decisions.

By the way, I STILL prefer older men. I would have little attraction for someone I still viewed in the child stages.

**Sandman I hear some claim that, however I have to say dating a 21 yr old would make me feel alot older than dating a 51 yrs old man would. The latter of the two would be what made me feel young in comparrison to my partner......

Then again, I am what makes me feel young. I dont worry about age I just have a great time!

For me it is about the fact that I know exactly how men treat young women - they love the lack of experience that makes a young woman so gullible. It isn't so much that older women are unattractive, simply that we have learnt a bit about the world and are less likely to take the crap. If that is what makes us unattractive then so be it - I can handle that.
I am a feminist - I do NOT compete with any women for mens attention.

You bring up an interesting point. Never thought of it that way. Maybe that's why relationships between older women/younger men are becoming more common. It makes older women fell younger and more attractive when they date younger guys compared to dating men their own age.

They should object to that about as much as men should object to more attractive women being found living in nicer neighborhoods.

I wasn't aware that women objected to that situation. I know we find it amusing, but I don't hear many object. Consider this - those men who want to date younger women are doing older women a favour by taking themselves out of the dating pool. If you want to hang out with a child - someone with whom you have absolutely nothing in common - and make yourself look foolish - go right ahead! No skin off our noses!

I think it's more sad than anything. Aside from sex, those older men really have nothing in common with young women. Young women are often inexperienced, insecure, and immature. The only reason older men would even want to be around them is for sex. Otherwise, they make pretty dull companions.

You are assuming a few too many things. Not all women object to this and those who do are not always older than the young woman.

I think the main concern is the older man taking advantage of the young women due to her lack of life experience. Not rape or anything, but simply viewing her as a trophy wife (or girlfriend or fu(k buddy or whatever). I know a women who is 32 and just married a 21 year old. Of course I have kept my opinions to my self, but my concern was his lack of life and relationship experience.

Oh, and if it holds any substance I am 24.
