thats nothing
the worst one I read was about that girl that was stoned cause she was in love with a boy that was from another religion. She even was humiliated and stripped naked, family members were part of those who did the stoning, their excuse for this idiotic behavior, that she was "impure".
She was impure for loving someone, but they were not by killing her

the other story I read, was of that young woman that was sentenced to receive 200 slashes for been a prostitute. Even when she was forced into prostitution, as a kid.
They are so narrow minded that they didnt see her as a victim but as a sinner

No wonder why their country is so poor, they are so ignorant that suppress women to a point that they are only good for bearing kids.

Probably they are insecure. But this article about the women beaten for going to a beauty parlour is because in the Islamic extremist view, this is immoral (obviously the woman will be trying to tempt a man and have immoral activities such as sex outside of marriage) and immodest (exposing their faces/bodies/hair to a stranger).

So this is about religious extremism. Part of it showing a hatred for what is perceived as a "Western" custom and also disrepect and disobedience of the Quran.

Extremist Islam has managed to box in, frighten, and control mainstream Islam. That is the danger normal Christians suffer from fundamentalist (or if you prefer) extremist Christians in the West. Those who are extreme are always a danger to those that are not.

Within Islam, the extremists view women as property, they push the full covering (thus the Burqa on women) and they believe that women should do nothing to make themselves attractive, and that only their husbands should find them so.

Ultra Orthodox Judaism has the same doctrine, minus the Burqa -- and Ultra Orthodox Jewish women shave their whole bodies and wear wigs because their "glory" cannot be shown to anyone except their husbands and G-d.

Ultra Fundamentalist Christians of certain sects (holiness sects primarily) have, again, largely the same doctrine. No makeup, no cutting of the hair, long, shapeless clothing, etc.

Are the men insecure? Yes, in all fundamentalist groups. Are they twisted, illogical and evil? In my opinion yes, again, in all fundamentalist groups. I don't care what the core faith is -- the fundamentalist version does something to people, something illogical and destructive as far as I can tell.

Kind regards,

Reyn

It's tragic, everybody should be able to free beautiful inside and out. There some extremely rdical Muslims in the middle East, thank god I don't live there. But not all Muslims are like that.

Women cannot show any of their hair, and wear full robe-type garmets. Their seen as too sexual for people to look at. No man other then their husband is supposed to see them when their not covered up. They also seem to be controlled by their husband, their not even aloud to leaves the house without a man with them - brother, father, or husband. It's a sin really..
Not aloud to wear makeup, or nail polish, or any of that stuff either. In iran if they get raped by a man, they go to jail, not the man.

:(

Us women are really quite lucky over hear dispite the problems that do arise.

Muslims believe that women, once married, should only be beautiful for their husbands. Going to a beauty parlor serves, in their minds, to attract other men to be interested in the woman, and thus invite adultery.

Well, although I may be born a Muslim, I do not agree with many of the moral beliefs that the people of Islam believe today. So yes, it is pretty horrible, but what do you expect? They're bafoons.

people... generalizing about the "muslim" world based on one story like this is like basing your entire conception of the "western world" including europe on what, for example, a few extremist mormons do.

this event is UNUSUAL. most muslims are NOT like this. if you go to egypt, jordan, lebanon, the indian subcontinent-- you will see women who are immacuately groomed, coiffed, and dressed-- and yes, who visit the salon.

arab women especially, big on beauty. of course you have pockets of sickeningly ignorant people who keep their women cloistered-- but these are not the norm, otherwise you'd hear about this all the time. i know, i grew up there as a foreigner. the women are GORGEOUS and take a lot of pride in their appearance.

a lot of the beauty traditions and techniques we have here-- invented in the (gasp) muslim world.
