Yes you are right.
A few facts. Saddam was very much an equal opportunity oppressor meaning women and Christians, the second man of the Saddam regime was a Christean, had their rights guaranteed and respected. Yes he was a brutal dictator but not a Muslim extremist.
Iraq had no place in the war on terror and the reasons for invading that country had nothing to do with human rights, threats but everything with classical economic imperialism and Israeli interests.
Secular Arab Nationalism has always been a force against radicalization and that's the truth. Iraq is now more Islamic than it was under Saddam. American foreign policy is morally bankrupt

I do not need to use your references---I was there !
As one of the few Americans on the Island where
the new Supertanker Docks were being built ---Not
tied to any Agency and free to roam ---invited into everyone's
homes Euros and Arabs---high placed and low --
I heard nothing but good about their Country and Government
from the many Iraqis working in Iran ---they were
the envy of all the other Tribes ---and the Middle East
is Tribal !
In Southern Iraq near Basra which the Brits have
recently left to the Iraqis---when my countries "Smart
Bombs " were devastating every building ---and
I mean "every" I could not watch the news---knowing
from being there what devastation is wrought in
times of Bombing ---as Shakespeare put it---when
all those legs and arms and bits and pieces rend the
air---and remembering the Happy faces of my friends'
Children and the hopes for their future expressed by
those Parent's !
I had known the faces of so many lovely Children and
loving Parents as I had in my home this Christmas in
another 3rd world country---are the Profits from
Oil and Wars and Rebuilding NoBid Contracts
worth it---are those Smart Bombs so Smart after all !!
Ask yourself ---are we better off now than we were---
Certainly Iraq is not !

The reasons for war are ALWAYS monetary. Follow the money trail for the real reason for the war. Human rights? That is a serious joke. A term thrown around to appease the American public to make use feel self-righteous
General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the last great Republican president warned us of the power of the "Industrial Military Complex" but we didn't listen.

This has absolutely no proof that we shouldn't have gone into Iraq. This is just showing what has happened to the Christians in Iraq. Our war has nothing to do with women getting haircuts. It is showing that things are being misinterpreted and taken the wrong way. I'm surprised that people think this is a reason to get away from Iraq. If we leave now, the country will be on its knees trying to rebuild the country.

Anne, you are looking at the muslims response to the war and saying, "This proves we can't do anything". Islam is a backward religion, has been for centuries. Whether you are looking at hairdressers or christians, the radical muslims are getting more ridiculous. It has nothing to do with our attacks on the tyrannies in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Muslim Brotherhood was happy to kill christians years before those invasions happened. Conservative Islam is backward and hates womens rights, they want you to be sheltered behind a burka, and when nations begin to move beyond the burka, albeit at a moderate pace, they will beat the girls that are wearing jeans and in extreme cases, kill them, as is happening in Basra.
The invasion isnt the problem, the problem is Islamists with an agenda. If you are a woman, your enemy isn't Bush, it is the Koran as interpreted by the Muslims I have met.
Do you like to vote? Do you like to have the right to choose your own husband? Do you like the idea of driving your own car? Do you like being able to go outside without wearing a tent or a hijab?
If you love those freedoms, do everything you can to stop the spread of Islam.

Sorry I like Ann Coulter, your sources are weak.First, their has been opposition against Christians in that part of the world since Saladin and Richard the lionhart, your expecting change overnight?within a few years? You must be young because it was during Carters presidency that the middle east stooped to chastising women during the Ayatollah years in the Early eighties, late seventies.Baghdad used to be known as the Paris of the middle east. Its the last 30 years or so that they became so much as hiding and demoralizing their women. Why arent you complaining about Saudi Arabia,Or is it that since we arent at war with them they dont count(especially the girl that was recently pardoned for the gang rape forced upon her by the Hierarchy there)Seems to me your Blame is in the wrong places.

No it is not more proof the invasion is wrong. You offer conjecture as your reasons. Hindu hardliners attack Christians in India and woman in China have less worth then men. In Japan woman walk behind the husband as a sign of subservience.
If you wish to find wrong and hardship in the world, don't single out only Iraq or the Islamic faith, single out the patriarchal system that oppresses woman or/and the age old imperialist vs tribalism conflict that has dogged civilization for millenniums.

Set back human rights? What world are you from, they are from the dark ages because of their religion. Do you wear a mask on your face, do you ride with friends versus relatives? Do you worry about the person beside you being strapped with a bomb. Do you ride down the street and look at parked cars, thinking which one is loaded with explosives?
If so, go there, I'm sure you'll be happy.

I fail to see how the views of islamic extremists on womans hair styling affect the moral ambiguity of our countries decision to wage a war on a organization that is determined to kill you and I.
