When you make a LAW that bans guns you forget something. Criminals are called criminals because they break the LAW.

Ferret-If citizens DON'T have guns, and criminals DO then who is going to get killed more? If the criminals are afraid of the citizens they will kill less not more

Ferret-An AUSTRALIAN university said that? Oh, then it must be true, absolutely no bias in that affiliation. None at all.

I have to agree with your thoughts in this. If you look at what happened in Australia when weapons were banned you would understand the basic philosophy of the criminal mind. 465,000 thousand legally owned firearms were surrendered and destroyed. Over the next 4 years, the murder rate in the state of Victoria rose over 400%. The honest citizen surrendered their guns and the criminals kept theirs. It became a free for all with the bad guys doing whatever they wanted. Also, if you look historically, when states accepted a private carry law, crime rates were reduced. You have nothing to fear from a citizen carrying a legally licensed weapon. What you need to fear is the criminal who doesnt care about laws or has no fear of the repercussions of his using a weapon. I hope this helps.

I am a lifelong NRA member, teach gun safety courses, and am 100% for little in the way of gun control. However, I think you are building a strawman out of their argument. If America had fewer guns overall, do you think on the whole we would be safer? Not whether good people or criminals have it. But, whether fewer guns=less murders and crimes. I'm willing to believe that is true. If we took 10% of the guns out of the country, let's even say 75% from good people and only 25% from bad people: I suspect violent crime would drop 2 or 3 points. So, you need to be fair to the argument. They know that it won't be perfect and bad people will still have guns: however, the first thing I teach in my gun safety courses is that the best protection is not to get into dangerous situations in the first place. When I go into the city and leave my guns at home, I am just as safe as when I have my gun. My gun doesn't = my safety, my brain does. So that's the real issue: safety doesn't come from the barrel of a gun. An unsafe, violent society might. We need to work on those brains more than anything else. If we take away the guns, good people will not suddenly be vulnerable. If we let them keep their guns, good people won't be safe. If we make people smart, that will be the best solution.

Banning guns just gives the criminals, that don't abide by the gun laws, the upperhand. Criminals are more likely to mug, rape, rob, or assault people if they know that nobody will be carrying a gun. Also, it makes us far more dependant on the government, which also makes us defenseless against our government if it ever becomes tyrannical and oppressive.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather dispense my own justice and protect myself in the process, from a would be attacker, than wait for the fuzz to arrive so I can give them a partial description of the assailant. Assuming I'm still alive and/or conscious.

This will make for a bad society because the criminals and the government are in possession of guns. This will make life easier for cowardly criminals doing their crime.

This is wrong. More people are killed by automobile. Is this next to be ban?

I am learning now about firearms and will very soon have my own gun. I love to walk outside in the country. I have seen too many things happen to women, and it is sad. I will not be anyone's victim. I will get a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
In these days it is wise to maintain protection. Too many criminals, and not enough justice!

Guns will never be banned, as it would accomplish more emboldened criminals. I support the NRA!

"Happy New Year!"

Here`s what allowing US citizens to "bear arms" meant in WW2. Although this was not the #1 factor that kept the Japanese from invading the US Mainland , it was considered to be an issue of the Japanese army as to how many Japanese soldiers would be killed if Japan invaded on US soil ! The Japs were highly aware that American citizens had guns and would defend themselves. This was a deterrent , not the main one , but it was in the minds of the Japs that they would lose too many soldiers by attacking onto the US mainland knowing that American citizens were " Armed & Dangerous", and would defend themselves !!

More deaths of law-abiding citizens. They will then have no way of defending themselves from tyranny, and government, OR a way to protect their children from an intruder in their homes. We would still have our baseball bats, and cooking knives, though. Somehow, I don't think that would be enough, however against the FBI, and criminals who DO have guns.
