I don't know a lot about physics (it may be evident) but the idea of a parallel universe fascinates me. I don't necessarily believe in it, but it's a great idea. But I was wondering, if by some chance one (or more) does exist, would it be possible for there to be intelligent life in it?

sure there is a chance.

its not physics that will explain anything though
what your thinking in is called Newtonian physics. how matter as a whole interacts with each other, and over time.

we're talking about quantum physics. the physics of how electron, neutrons and protons work inside an atom.

after studying them, we noticed that they do not act accordingly to the laws of Newtonian physics, instead they act in a world where time and the impossibility of different times all combine into a single reality of chaotic possibilities. and thats just the parts that make the atom.

if we keep breaking it down, we find that it boils down to time. within time, a huge amount of possibilities form, which forms different matter.

most of the time electrons here, disappear which gives the possibilities that they pop in and out of other times/dimensions in which it could exist, its just that we don't notice it.

if we keep digging deeper into the building blocks we notice that the math shows that energy turns into the form of strings that flow through these parts, all shifting through time.

there we come across string theory.

in string theory we finally find our self in a space that contains 10 dimensions.

This single dimension is called the 11th D and inside it contains "branes" of at least up to 9 dimensions (5 at the most. The 10th being the container which is serpented as its own dimension)

then the 10th dimensional holders (branes) slam into each other forcing power and energy into either new containers or into a new empty container soon to be filled with matter/energy (AKA BIG BANG)

it all doesn't make sense I know, but Thats normal for Quantum mechanics. Its a very ODD scientific observation with crazy results.

its just mathematical theory and we're still waiting for information to proof or disprove it.

I'd wait till MAY of 2008 and see what kind of results CERN's particle accelerator can give us.

right now, parallel should be limited to other possibilities in times exists in shifts within our universe.

UNDERSTAND though, that this shift is not proven or even accessible!............ to prove, thusly being not only parallel, but untouched, unreachable and more than likely oblivious.

One of the great mysteries is why the universe exists in the form that it does. Why 3 dimensions? Why does light travel at the speed it does? Why do we observe the subatomic particles that we observe and not some other set? Our very existence depends on all these things and many more being the way they are.

You could just say that it was Designed that way and the argument would then be presumably closed, or you could argue that the delicate balance of the physical constants and observables argues for a multiplicity of universes, each of which is subtly different to the others, and that we live in a "perfect" universe simply because physical properties in other universe preclude the existence of complex structures that we call life.

Are these hypothetical "other universe" what you mean by parallel universes?

Possible? It'd be guaranteed. Parallel universes are the same universe as ours but with minor differences. If you believe in parallel universes, it's thought that there is a parallel universe for every single decision/event that you've ever made or encountered. So if you didn't win the jackpot on the lottery in one universe, you've won it in another.

And besides, the odds are pretty slim that there isn't any other intelligent life in our universe, considering all the billions of planets out there..

Yes, it is certainly possible. If it is possible for life to exist in this one, then another with the same laws would also allow it. Remember that we think this is the "real" universe, but if you were born in another, you would think that your one was real.

In fact it is guaranteed according to most models.

In the quantum "Many Worlds Interpretation", there is one universe for every thing that could happen in more than one way. Which means that millions of universes would have life of some sort.

We just do not know What the Configuration of Heaven is.
All we know iswhat we can obsrver with a telescop;e and with ardio astronomy.

Most likely things would exist concentrically rather than paralell. And according to Gaussian therory paralelism at infinity does not exist because two line cannot remain in parallel for ever. They eventuraly meet.

there are many parallel universes. i visit then on occasion. i'm not joking and i'm not crazy. based upon these journeys i've actually been about to create a theory on the shape of the universe. it is shaped like a ream of paper with one sheet being one universe, another sheet being another and so on and so forth. but dont think it's flat, its probably circular. you can call this the ream theory. i created this theory because i know each universe it very close together which explains how i'm able to hear and see and have my essence present in this other universes.

properly first of all, is there quite a parallel universe accessible? Secondly, time vacationing so some distance are basically thought and experiments. If the assumption of vacationing swifter than easy speed ( consistent) is genuine than all we desire left to do is locate some thing that facilitates us to bodily/mentally shuttle swifter permitting quantum time shuttle.

If parallel universes do exist there would be an infinite number of them, and many would contain life.

"Parallel universe" usually refers to a universe similar to our own where other versions of you and I may exist. However it can also mean just any universe that exists other than our own which may be very different than our own.

But it's all hypothetical either way.

yes there is a chance ,the concept of parallel universe is actually a resolution to the Schrodinger's Cat paradox, theoretically it is possible but so far no emperical evidence validates it.
