A train trip around the U.S. Probably cost more, but I would use it up on that.

With 5k I'd fund a two week trip to Australia or France. The monies would be spent on funding airfare, hotel and travel arrangements. Gone within 30 minutes! :)

Or I'd simply fund my Roth IRA for the year (in branch deposit is fastest assuming I got the funds before noon) and then I'd invest 5k into , ISGR, GOOG, AMZN, GRMN, MVL or SINA.

Otherwise, I'd just spend the entire 5k to either purchase a set of golf clubs and lessons.

Lastly, if that's not available then I've always wanted to have a private pampering day at a world class spa.

I hardly buy anything for myself that I don't need so this is a hard question. I think I would buy a really nice bed. I have severe back pain and a comfortable bed could help me not be in so much pain. With any left over money I would buy matching bedroom furniture because all I have in my room now is an old mattress on the floor.

A new chicken house with that great "new timber" smell, some long posts and wire netting to conceal amid shrubs, climbers and perennials, all around the garden so our chickens and ducks, could roam safely. All collected on our big trailer from a store about 10 mins away..while there might as well add a quality saddle.

That's easy. A newer car. Maybe a compact station wagon
and get rid of our van. Our van with the muffler with the hole in
it, mind you! LOL. There's always a first for everything. And
having a car with a muffler going out, is a first for me. I never
even rode with a boyfriend when I was young, that had a bad
muffler. So why am I so lucky now? LOL. Maybe the answer
to that is, boys worked on their cars when I was a teenager.
And at my husbands age, he can't get under a car anymore
to do his own repairs. So he has to rely on young guys to do
the work now. Ouch! A bill to start the new year off? Seems
like Murphy's Law all over again in the new year too. :(

If the rules permitted, I would probably buy a US savings bond. If that were not permitted, I would buy some nice clothes, like a raincoat and winter jacket, a new lamp because my cleaning lady broke my tiffany lamp, an ipod, a television stand for my bedroom, a new glass top coffee table for the living room, and an antique chest of draws for the bedroom. That would probably exhaust the $5K.

A new top of the line computer and scanner printer. The best of computer chairs with heated seat. A new desk to put it on and lots of printing supplies. And superfast internet service because this wireless is too slow.

Plane tickets to the two different states that my grandchildren live in and a new computer. If there was any left I would buy a stackable washer and dryer. (That would be for me since I live alone and carrying baskets in and out of the laundromat is becoming a harder task each time!)

I would do something practical and probably get a few things done to my house like 3 new windows, and I want another outside faucet. If it wasn't that, I would be putting it towards my truck payments. I know it sounds pretty boring!

Two hours! But all the stores are closed!!
OK new carpet for the living room (is that on myself)-get my car detailed-hire someone to come in and clean and organize my house. That would probably use up the whole amount!!
