I always remember when I was at school ( junior) the teacher asked that very question. In a history lesson we were learning about Harold when he got shot with an arrow in his eye I think.
I said to the teacher that I would like to go back to the year 1066 to see what really did happen to Harold.

The 1890s and become a Sousa band groupie. Ride all over the U.S. in those beautiful steam-trains, attending all the fabulous band concerts and stay in those gorgeous Victorian hotels, pal-ing around with the band members and occaisionally chatting with the March King himself. Join the band? Not me--my talent couldn't touch those masters. What fun, though!

I'd go back to the 2nd century BC to see the Library of Alexandria before it was destroyed by Caesar in 48 BC.

I would want to go right back to the beginning of life on Earth, to gather hard evidence that evolution did, indeed, create life here, and finally put to rest the ridiculous claims of young-Earth creationists.

i'd go to the dinosaur times, so i could see the moment that the asteroid hit and killed them to see if it was really the cause of it, and then using that (data) to ensure that in the future if it happens again, we have a chance on how it will affect us and how to survive it.
