Very good question. I would hope the driver is not racist. And why does pianist have a twinge of naughtiness to it.

i guess if you call a person who race car drive a driver maybe you should call a person who player a piano a player?? I guess it just the idiosyncrasy's of the English language.

They have nothing in common. One is playing a musical instrument...pianist, cellist, violinist, trombonist, guitarist, oboist, etc.

The other is driving a car fast. Not the same. Comparing apples to oranges. Why would you even think they should be the same.
