Chris Osgood's GAA in St. Louis in 2003-2004 was lower and his save percetage higher than was Patrick Lalime's in Ottawa that season. (Lalime is currently the backup Goalie in Chicago, fyi).

Osgood had a 2.24 GAA and a .910(?) Save Percentage in 2003-2004. Not good enough?

Osgood and St. Louis had trouble coming to an agreement after the 2003-2004 season, and Osgood told St. Louis he would be testing the free-agent waters.

St. Louis then sent a low draft pick to Ottawa for Lalime.

Osgood was unable to find a team prior to the 'lockdown period' and had to wait until after the lockout, at which point, Detroit signed him to back up Legace.

Chris Osgood is one of the most underappreciated goalies in the past 10 years. Who knows why they didn't want him to keep starting. It's there loss. Now they got a guy who got shell shocked in the first round in 2006. Good for them.

At the risk of upsetting "AVS FAN" who seems to resent my pointing out that Osgood is underrated, teams are often looking for the "hot name" which they possibly saw in Lalime at the time. I never understood the Wings dumping Osgood for Joseph in the first place, but I guess it worked out in the end.

Because all these narrow minded people thing Osgood is nothing but a backup. Why have the Blues made half the moves they made? They got Lalime, because he was the sexy name at the time. Thats why good teams sign players, not names.

Idk, but we got him for a golden deal. 500,000 is a hella of a bargain for a goalie going to the All-Star game.
