My mother and i bought a lot of natural stone a while back and we have been polishing them in a tumbler. Today we found a LARGE Blue Star Sapphire and we were wondering if a local jeweler would cut it for us for a nominal fee?

contact a local jeweler (i would recommed a family owned place, not a big chain), its not likely that they can cut it, but it is likely that they will know someone who can do it for you...an experienced jeweler has many connections for this sort of thing.

Jewelers these days will have virtually no experience with cutting stones, or in the case of a star sapphire, grinding and polishing it. You need to talk to someone who does lapidary work and to get the best results, someone who has experience with this particular gemstone. Go to the internet and put in 'lapidary Texas' but use your state name. If nothing else, you should get the name of a hobby group doing lapidary or a supply place and you can ask them about who might help.

Only one way to find out... call a local jeweler and ask.
