A Christmas Carol or maybe How To Kill A Mocking Bird or Fahrenheit 451.

I would definitely recommend The Great Gatsby. I studied it in school this year and it was really interesting! It's quite short, but it is laden with meaning. There's also a movie starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow that is really good and helps you understand the book better.

I would also recommend The Kite Runner, even though it is a bit longer.

A Christmas Carol is a great one for this time of year. Or Oliver Twist.

Hope this helps.
