Being a mechanic is something that is born in you. all the school in the world will not make you any better. probably the same for a medical surgeon.
Get a job at a local repair shop and see if you aquire an ability to do the work required.
I often think that I would have been much better off as a lawyer for a queer whorehouse in Vatican City than I am now!

If you are in High School I recomend taking a tech class such as auto mechanics.

If you aren't you can always go to the local auto parts store (O'riellys, NAPA, AUtozone, Western Auto, Federated Auto parts, etc) and get a sevice manuel on your vehicle (Such as: Hayse, Chiltons, etc). These have step by step instructions on how to repair your vehicle, how to perform preventitive maintinance, pictures, and the maintenince intervals. Many times the best way to earn is hands on experiance and these books are like having a mechanic by your side walking you through your repairs!

Another option is to attend a tech school such as I am. Many Schools offer programs and there are schools dedicated to this sole subject. I Will be attending NADA (Nashville Auto Diesel College) this semester to expand my already vast knowledge of auto mechanics. They will help me get the rest of my ASE certifications and help me find a good paying job.

Hope I helped,

John

Buy yourself an old car for $500 & a Haynes or Chilton's manual. If you have the space, buy another car for parts. No better way to learn than hands on.

Go to a hobby store and buy a Revell visible engine kit. Put it together and see how things work. You can do this on your own time, it's fun and very educational.
