I went to the mall today and my mom found this stand and talked with this lady who claims once someone auditions their audition video is sent to big companies like Disney and Nickolodeon. (sp?) She says the audition has no cost. Is this a scam?

Yeah, it's a scam. You WILL be hit up for money eventually. Of COURSE you will be. How do you think these mall-vampires pay their rent and bills? Ask your mom to ask the lady to write down the full names of ten child actors for whom they've gotten jobs in television or movies, and sign her name to that paper. The lady won't do it. She knows she could be sued for lying or for using some child's name without permission. These people aren't agents. They're running a school.

And even if they do send "audition videos" to Nick and Disney, Nick and Disney will throw them directly into the trash, as they do with all unsolicited material. They can have their pick of thousands and thousands of professional child actors who are ready to work and don't need to be trained---so why would they need to scour the country for amateurs? Or waste their time looking through thousands of videos they never asked to see in the first place?

Without more information, I won't call that particular company a scam, but legitimate agencies generally have no need to troll the malls for candidates. Legit agencies also do not ask for any money - they make their money only when they book a job for you, then they take a percentage.

This is the biggest scam of all. All lies. The audition is free but you have to sign up for these expensive classes. In CA it is illegal for an agent to do business anywhere except at their agency.

They may not ask for money now, but they will soon. Legit agencies don't need to go sit in the mall. They have thousands of people submitting their headshots everyday. Don't trust that one you're talking about. It's a bunch of bs.

These people are everywhere. Legitimate, licensed talent agencies are NOT allowed to advertise.
