Dear Jbloor@... - Though, I certainly appreciate your answer, please note that my question was addressed to "Humanity" and NOT just our fellow "Americans"! ... Perhaps in our chronic lapse of modesty, we've come to regard ourselves as the sum total of humanity, but I'm afraid there are at least 5.5 billion “nasty people” [LOL] out there who would take issue with our self-evident and inalienable declarations of grandeur! :-)

Ahhhhh.......grasshopper.....I knew what you meant......and what is humanity begins in each human heart.....years ago I stumbled upon the idea of resolving to be more kind.....now.....it is one of my resolutions with every New Year.....so....I will seek to give kindness and often it is passed on...and on...and on.....so Yes....I believe humanity will be more kind in 2008......

.....and back to 2007.....certainly a precious light went out when Dan Fogelberg died.....and although Same Auld Lang Syne was a good song, it was much more commercialized and therefore more memorable.....but it does not come near the art of his earlier songs......as Romeo would say......"beauty too rich for use"........

Robert Burns said he took down the words as he heard an old man sing Auld Lang Syne to an old Scottish melody. How befitting an unlearned plowman from Scotland would be remembered by one of the most popular songs of our time throughout the world. It was a beautiful gift to humanity as a continuance of goodwill whether American, Asian, Canadian, or European, in hope of bringing the world together as one.

It has been going down hill for the last six months. Most of the fun and crazy contacts I had are long gone, Shizz, Yidiot, etc. all gone. I rarely post questions or answers anymore because they are reported or deleted. I still stop by to see if anything exciting is going on, but it aint happening anymore. Maybe things will get better, who knows.

Seems more and more unlikely. Going by the current events it seems we are moving towards total chaos. With so much hatred and madness around, sometimes it appears like a miracle that we are even alive.

History shows that all those who offered 'cup of kindness' were silenced by the bullets of fanatics for whom 'kindness' is a dirty word...

Alas; tho I appreciate the spirit of your question, I worry that you are missing the meaning fo the lyric? The song encourages us to accept kindness. Americans seem to always be hungry to accept kindness. And when it is not offered, we often demand it. If you are asking; 'Will Americans extend a cup of kindness in 2008?' Well; that is much more doubtful in these uncertain economic times and our consumer-oriented society at war. I might be more hopeful, if not for the terror-infused 8 yr Bush era that has brain-washed the majority of Americans into living in fear.

I wonder. The odds would seem against it, but maybe there is a long term trend towards a kinder and gentler humanity.
Maybe not.
