I love watching Steve Smith play, but he is nowhere near the greatest ever, Jerry Rice in case you forgot, and he isn't even on the same level as T.O. and Randy Moss. He is injured way too much and he hasn't helped his team out too much this year, they had all them qb injuries and he really didn't step up to lead them.

Well, Smith is a great WR, but the Best Ever? I don't think so. I see him play often b/c I live in ATL and for obvious reasons, the Panthers are on TV more often than the Falcons (at least their games). Smith is fast, strong, and has excellent hands. If he played for the Colts, Pats, or Packers, he'd have even better stats. However, you have to take into account that he is the ony WR for CAROLINA and has been for quite some time. So his numbers are sometimes deceiving. He doesn't get credit b/c he talks alot of trash about his coach and sometimes his QB's when things aren't going well. Remember Keyshawn Johnson's "just give me the damn ball"? That didn't earn him any respect. Likewise for Smith. As good as he is, match him up with Marvin Harrison, Torrie Holt, Randy Moss, and Terrell Owens. He isn't even the best out of those guys. (not to mention Jerry Rice, the real "best WR" ever) Smith reminds me alot of Amani Toomer for the Giants. He puts up big numbers, but no one outside of his own fanbase knows who he is. If Smith wants more attention, he's going to have to go to a team who has a real QB and a chance to win every year, not every other year. Also, how many Panthers fans do you see outside of Carolina? Not many. Some of those fans even cheer for the Titans and 'Skins. So, Smith is good, but nowhere near the best ever. He's not even the best 'now'.

I know he played very well in Carolina. I really like him and Vnny Testeverde (dunno spell name). I know Steve Smith is good at WR, but Jerry Rice, T.O, and Randy Moss are good so you need to think what the difference between those guys and Steve Smith. If Carolina plays wiit the Patroits, I wish I could see who's better Randy Moss or Steve Smith. I prefer Steve Smith to be better than Randy Moss. LOL. I am the fan of the Panthers (Carolina) and other three teams too.(not NE)

Steve Smith is a great wr but until he has an elite qb throwing at him he'll have up and down stats. But no doubt he's better then moss and owens. Owens drops to many balls and Moss is fast but his blocking and release can come to question, things steve smith does great. Most underated wr in the NFL next to Driver.

I really hope you mean he's the greatest receiver to ever play for the Panthers, and not the greatest in NFL history.

Like the first answer said, he's not even the best current receiver - Moss and Owens are both better. Historically, there are 20 guys I can name easily off the top of my head who are better than Smith. He's a great receiver, but you need to lay off the hyperbole.

steve smith is a great wr but doesn't have a decent QB to get him the ball, lets face it vinny is what in his 60s or around there and never was any good to begin with and why the panthers went after that fool who knows, other than getting him for probably 10 bucks a game//// they would have done better calling up joe nameth or terry bradshaw//// I like the panthers but they need a good QB they have a great wr////

slow down sparky. steve smith might be the 3rd best wr from his junior college, at santa monica city college he played with chad "ocho cinco" johnson and anquan bolden. steve smith is a pretty good receiver but there are still a handful of current wr that are at least as good as smith.

*they all 3 played there before transferring out*

No he wont cause he is one of the most underated players in the NFL, I dont think that hes the greatest ever because hes not on Rice's level, but pound for pound he is awesome, hes not having a big year this year because his team is struggling and is constanly facing double teams, but if he was on the Colts, Pats, or Cowboys he would be just as dangerous as ever.

Steve Smith, greatest WR ever?

He's not even the best in the game today (Moss, T.O.).

And there was once this guy who played, his name was Rice...

have you seen his numbers? i know he has no good qb's. do you mean carolina's best receiver ever or the NFL's best wr ever? i hope you are saying carolina's. if not you need to go to a mental intitute (nothing personal but there are guys right now like TO marvin harrison, randy moss) and there have been guys like jerry rice, deion sanders and all those guys that torched triple men coverage.
