that do not consider themselves to be very religious or at least their political views aren't influenced by their religious views? And consider the moral social issues (abortion, gay marriage) to have little to no importance or relevance in politics?
Personally I could care less about those issues, and I don't think it's really any of the presidents or the federal governments business. I think it's wrong for both the religious right and the secular left to invoke the federal government to enact their views (unconstitutional to leave it up to the federal government to decide for all states weather abortion should be legal or illegal.) Decisions like this, should be left up to the individual states to decide for themselves. Just like our federalist system of government is suppose to work. Imo, these issues shouldn't even have an impact on presidential candidates, but I guess that's just me.
Why have so many people lost sight of federalism?

Oh really "what?"?? I happen to be conservative, and I find liberals to be far more hypocritical than conservatives.

I am a conservative. I believe that the government is not responsible for how you live. You are. The government is not responsible for how much money you earn. You are. If you fall on hard times, then pick yourself up and work to get back on your feet. The government should help you out to get back on your feet, BUT, not baby you for the rest of your life. We live in a capitalist society.
Capitalism - an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods and by prices, production and distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market.
I believe in this. The money I make is mine. If I make more money as a CEO than a clerk who works for me, so? I have earned it. This leads to the tax the rich more. Huh? Why should I have to pay extra for my success? All this teaches people is that moving up in the world is not worth it. You will have to pay more.
Do these views make me conservative? As for the issue of religon and abortion, I could care less. In today's America, we have MUCH bigger problems i.e. immigration to worry about.

How many have lost sight of the power of the federal government? And how many bring up arguments against candidates which have absolutely no bearing on ones ability to lead or to govern. Abortion doesn't belong on the table. Nor does pro-life; nor does religion;nor does divorce;. Morality does matter. His ability to make decisions is a dominant factor. We will always need a leader and politicians who place the country first, all their constituents, second and the party dead last.

I'm a conservative and my political views are influenced by my religious views. I think everyone's are regardless of their political affiliation. You say that religious views are none of the government's business. That's not true. Just because our government cannot force you to believe in a certain religion, it was created on Christian principles. Don't you remember the Declaration of Independence? We are endowed by our "Creator" with certain unalienable rights such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The life thing pretty much means the government needs to be against abortion.
Most of the people on here who say they are conservatives, really aren't conservatives if you listen to their views.

A state by applying a 'conservative': 'we are actually not against exchange. We in simple terms desire exchange we are able to have faith in and we've not seen it yet.' How does that assertion cause them to distinctive from everybody different than their club association. presenting exchange necessitates braveness to threat own capacity and public appreciate for the problem-unfastened reliable, yet, needless to say, which skill loss's for the richer for that compensatory action, and so, they argue, it quite is not (although 'it' may be) for the problem-unfastened reliable. So, the poorer people don't get the exchange they could desire to fulfill all their human desires.

i have very set morals, but rarely think of God or my religion when considering them. A lot of logic goes into my views. Why should abortion be legal if someone kills a pregnant woman, they are charged with 2 murders? I agree with the death penalty only if the criminal is dangerous to others lives and nothing else can be done to stop them. I am conservative and hope Fred Thompson wins the primaries.

I am old enough to live my life and make my own judgment.
I don't need the government or The ACLU thinking or telling me what to do,When they start paying my Bills and caring my pain. then talk to me. They will not tell me what God I can Serve, or what church I can go too. no matter what party goes into office.. So just call me determined not to let them brain wash me. Politician play on the poor and talk them into there vote, I feel so sorry in way for them sometimes, but sometime I just want to shake some sense into them Honestly ,some of them have no idea what going on. that the very people they're voting for will be the ones keeping them in poverty all their life, But try and tell them that, they get upset and I back off. with respect for their wishes.

People have lost sight of what our government was set up to do. Government is to protect the peoples collective interest. Not further the fews objectives, and as soon as you add personal agendas and controversial morals into politics, it doesn't work as it was intended

Politicians try to appeal to the lowest common denominator and would say anything that will get them votes. I agree with you that their religious beliefs should be private and not part of any debate. But a large portion of the American public will not think for themselves and try to understand the complicated important issues. They want to vote for someone who supports their own issue whether it be abortion, gay rights, etc. They take the easy way out and the politicians know it.
