Why do liberals think it is OK to abort an 8 month old baby (late term abortion) that could obviously survive outside the womb?
Isn't this essentially murder? If so, how can liberals morally justify this?

1- Yes, I do expect you to take this seriously. Michigan and Kansas both had opportunities to bar this procedure and their Democratic governors refused to sign the bill.
So-avoiding answering the question doesn't make it any less true. Sorry people.

3-one more:
In the face of overwhelming support from the people and Michigan legislators, Governor Jennifer Granholm, with a stroke of a pen, vetoed state legislation that would have effectively banned partial birth abortion. Granholm's veto message parroted familiar rhetoric from extreme proabortion groups that S.B. 395 would ban abortions without providing adequate protections for the life and health of the mother. The governor ignored clear language in the bill stating that a physician could address a legitimate physical threat to the mother. In citing past federal court decisions striking down previous partial birth abortion bans, Granholm dismissed the completely new legal theory advanced by the bill - the Legal Birth Definition Act.

Oh please such a small amount of abortions are actually performed because "the mother is at risk". Get Real Liberals. They have no facts to support anything which is typical. They claim that a fetus is not "alive" therefore it does not "feel". So are you caliming your dead before your alive? Why would the baby kick? PALEASE. Get ready for the extremely Unrealistic answers and dodgings.
EDIT, They have aborted babies that late in trimester, it is called Partial Birth Abortion

If you want me to be serious, give me the bill that they refused to sign. Kansas has some of the most draconian laws on abortion in the country. I am pretty sure that current law in Kansas bars late term abortions except when necessary to protect the life and health of the mother. There are several Supreme Court cases holding that either the legislature needs to make that exception or the courts will read that exception into the statute.
A bill is legislative language -- not the summary put on it by the media. Without seeing the language, I can't tell you whether a particular proposal is good or bad. Of course, actually recognizing that precise language matters is verboten in discussing any issue about abortion because the extremists on both sides merely want to know if you are with us or against us.
Edit -- The Michigan Act does not do what you say it would do. It does not ban late term abortions. It bans so-called "partial birth abortions." Furthermore, the description of "partial birth abortions" appears to resemble the vague Nebraska statute that was struck down as being overbroad by the U.S. Supreme Court compared to the narrower statute passed by Congress which did pass constitutional muster. I do not blame the Governor of Michigan for vetoing this statute in light of the Nebraska decision. There is no reason for every one of the 50 states to have to litigate constitutional questions. One state can be the guinea pig and the other states can wait on the results rather than having to waste tax payer money fighting the issue in all 50 states.

What makes you think that an abortion of an 8 month pregnancy is common? It isn't. As a matter of fact it occurs only when the mother's life is at risk. 99% of the doctors out there will not perform a late term abortion unless the mother's life is at risk. AND, if the mother's life is at risk then it is morally justified to save her.

I was going to say "This ain't serious", but DW beat me to it.
Anyway, I doubt if anyone (anyone!) think's it is ok to kill a baby that IS a human being. The thing about it is that there is no reason to feel that a fertilized egg or an embryo or even an early fetus is actually a person, except for the religious reason. That's just not good enough.
There are plenty of reasons (more objective) to believe that it is not.

NeoCons want to avoid abortions so that the child can grow up in poverty, live in poor conditions, have no choices in life, and look to the military as a way out. So the NeoCon government will have plenty of troops to invade countries to go get oil for Halliburton.

First of all, don't blanket us, not all liberals think this is OK. In fact, most liberals would find this practice disgusting. The only time a late term abortion should be found acceptable is in a case where the child would suffer terribly if it lived outside the womb or if carrying the pregnancy to term could kill the mother AND child. Even in these cases, most liberals would consider all other options before allowing such a procedure to happen. Also, it comes down to the idea that the government should not tell its citizens how to handle medical decisions, but supporting this does not mean you support late term abortions.

isn't there a time limit as to when you can abort??? I think all of this is the mother's or womens porogative... We don't know the situtation of these people that find them selves sitting in that room wondering if what they are doing is right. I think this is something you must experience yourself to have a say in it...

when the life of the mother is at risk and/or the baby is so deformed that it will die shortly after birth.
edit
-0.08% of abortions are performed after 6 months (THIRD TRIMESTER)- virtually all are performed to terminate horribly deformed fetuses
-partial birth abortion was a procedure normally used in the SECOND TRIMESTER and is now banned.
and before 50 days (when most abortions occur) there is no brain activity - therefore the fetus can feel no pain.
prove me wrong without using a religouis/right wing propaganda site as a source.

I am very liberal when it comes to choice. However, when a woman has chosen to carry for 8 months, abortion makes no sense. Get a c-section and walk away.
