I'm 23 weeks pregnant with a baby boy. The father is now SET on naming the baby after him (as in, Adam Jr.). I'm not 100% sold on the idea (what if the father isn't around 16 years from now? I'll be sick of it haha), but I also can't find any other names that I like! I thought I was ok with naming him the "junior," but now, I'm just not so sure. Any advice? Is it good to name a baby boy after his dad? Thanks!

I hear ya but whether your together or not, its his dad. You should go to polls and surveys and ask men if they like being named after their dad. My one son is and I used Roman Numeral 2 instead of junior with his name.

I think it's a good idea only if both parents want it 100%. My boyfriend's brother just had a kid who is now the _____5th. But his mommy was really set on carrying on the tradition, she was always calling it Cinco. But if you're not set on it, then don't do it. You still have a couple of months left. Stroll baby websites and see if any names pop out. He shouldn't be demanding you name the child after him, because YOU'RE carrying him. But who knows, you may grow to love the name again; perhaps the pregnancy is messing with your normal decision-making. But remember, he cannot force you to name the baby anything, he can give his suggestions and veto certain names, just like you can, but in the end, you should both agree. I can't imagine that he would be so stubborn on one name that he will not help you figure out a different name if you say "NO!" to "Junior." Good luck on this situation, honey.

While I like the name Adam, I'd hesitate to use the name for a son. Plenty of names - James, William, Alexander - have more than one nickname option. But Adam is pretty much Adam, and I think that would be confusing.

What you might do is call him AJ - Adam Jr.

If that doesn't appeal, I'd use Adam as a middle name and choose something else for the first name.

Adam is a nice name, but he'd always be Little Adam or Adam Junior because you can't shorten Adam to anything. I ran into the same problem with my son. My husband's name is Seth- can't shorten it, so I chose a totally different name in the end. You COULD always name him Adam (middle name) jr and call him by his middle name. Legally/technically he'd be a jr., but he can choose as an adult what name to go by. You could also use the A in Adam along with a middle initial and call him AJ or something like that.

if your not sure if the father will be around in the long run but you still kind of want to name the baby after the father, then you can give the baby his father's name as a middle name. If the father stays around, then the baby can go by his middle name, but if not he always has the first name.

Maybe make Adam the first or the middle name and make sure the other name is different -that way he's not a "Junior".

Example: If Dad is "Adam Jacob", then name the baby "Adam Michael" or "Daniel Adam".

I've never been a fan of Juniors. Just like you said...what about 16 years from now? You never know and having to say the bastard's name doesn't set too well.

Maybe make that his middle name.

Nicholas Adam Last-name.

I have a friend that name her son after her husband by using his middle first name. This way, the have the same name, but different names. I think it's a cool way of naming the son after the father

middle Adam

The boy loves the name, he tells everyone he has the same name as his father, but backwards

I would use Adam as a middle name

i would say no, just because sometimes the child then thinks he has to be just like his father in every way. you could always reverse the first name and middle name. thats what my mom did for my brother. my dad's name is glen hamilton, and my bro's name is hamilton glen. you could always try something like that! oh, and i love the name adam! sorry i know thats pretty random but i do! lol
