Not really. My parents said the world was going to hell back in the 70s, my grandparents said they said the same thing before that as did their parents. Its a natural thing as we lose our innocence from youth and learn the actual dangers of the real world.

The US has its hands in too many baskets right now, and several nations are seeing the opportunity to grab some power. More people in this country are killed by our own drunk drivers than any terrorist event. We may see Putin or Chavez as a threat but look at our rates of child abuse and domestic violence. I doubt if any of the women in the safe house have been beaten by Ahmadinajad or a North Korean so it looks like we have plenty of our own terrorists right here. With a few more environmental setbacks the US could be in some trouble. If the poles begin to melt our country will lose that lovely ocean view and there will be a displacement of citizens like there has never been seen before. I have San Andreas Earthquake and New Madrid Earthquake set up as news alert topics on my homepage.

Our country is in a huge near panic situation due to borrowing from other countries for war spending. What happens when we can't pay off China? What will the Euro nations do then? Will the US dollar be so devalued that our money will be no good anywhere?

Another trend I am watching is genetically modified foods. I know that Canada is having some experiences with canola and wheat right now. Monsanto has made an enemy of India for the introduction of gen-mod crops that failed to produce as promised. There is a lot going on! Another topic I am watching is the destruction of sea life due to pollutants and what that will mean to all of the shore living people in the world and their loss of food supply. I think I am going to start a checklist and go through each condition weekly to see where we stand and assign a value to it and call it the Trout Factors in your honor. Have a great 2008!!

Hey ur close. it does seem like the world is going to hell. but the thing is it has always been like this since the time of man began. people flex what they have and some times over exadurate as to how bit they are behind the cloths. North Korea, Iran and Pakistan and china are threats but not as big as the government and news broadcasts say they are. even if they do have nukes its for the countries with in shouting distance of them, yes that's bad but hardly has to deal with us. the economy problem can be throw all around. but the thing is as u say its going to crap. because the radical rich people and environment freaks. they make it to where the middle class doesn't exist, that's what is screwing up the economy, higher gas higher cost of living and all those things put a damper on consumption as well as the ethanol crap its making farm produce harder to come by unless ur feeding ur car. thus farmers cant buy corn to feed their livestock and price of meats, and milk go up bringing us back to the beginning. that's whats happening. I am with u the world is going to hell in a hand basket but don't worry it will level out or we will be long gone before the whole thing goes totally to $hIt. hope that answered u Q.

I don't know. Serfdom is gone, slavery is a shadow of itself, entire peoples are only killed in backwater areas instead of everywhere, life spans are double of what they were 200 years ago, diets are more varied then ever before, people have much more leisure time and disposable monies, understanding of other cultures is facilitated by quick travel and modern communications, most of the world has intertwined economies making large scale wars unlikely, and education levels are at an all time high. Seems like there has been a steady progression towards better; not worse.

I'm less worried about war and terrorism than I am about economic collapse. Our dollar is weak, we're in debt like never before, we're progressing from a service economy to an expertise economy, and before long, we will not be able to mask the fact that unemployment is rising and overall financial health of the average American is declining. Technology and globalization have fastened us to this fate.

When economic circumstances become desperate, people become desperate. Then the real fun starts.

There have always been doomsday people like you around. If you really try, you can find plenty of good in the world, but you won't find it by reading the news. Go see a little league game or something to mix some positives in with the negatives that we get bombarded by.

It's not that bad compared to any other time in my lifetime. People just have you worked up and paranoid. They do that for two reasons: viewer ratings and to control you.

Calm down, and you won't be a tool.

Personally, I think that we are going to lose that race.
