My son eats 41 ounces a day plus he gets cereal twice a day. He ALWAYS seems hungry. He weighs 14.4lbs (which the doc said is good) But why, why, why is he eating so much? It seems like whenever he's awake he's eating, then he cries to go to sleep. Is this normal? This is my 3rd kid and this just seems like too much food. Do you think it would help to give him other solids than rice cereal?

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but he cries if he's not eating & and he won't take a pacifier, I've bought every kind and he just sucks on it then spits it out. He's been gaining 3lbs a month too. And he's on formula. He's been drooling alot too, I thought teething, but my dr says not.

Because you're feeding it to him. I don't know what the recommendation is on formula but you should follow it. Just because baby is crying, it does not mean he is hungry. He may just want to be close to you. Maybe try a sling or baby carrier and see if this comforts him.
BTW, breastmilk or formula ONLY for the first six months. Baby COULD be crying because the solid food is irritating him.

Hey congratulations on the new addition!
You say your son is eating 41 ounces but is this breast milk or formula? Perhaps you can introduce formula if he is taking just breast milk. Or depending on how much he takes each feeding you can increase the amount slightly (maybe he is crying to sleep because he is still hungry)
Do you monitor his feeding habits? You might want to for a few days to figure out his eating habits better.
Most likely he is going through a growth spurt and if you have a history with his doctor (if he has been the doctor for the others and they are all healthy than I would say his judgement is good) it would seem he is doing okay.
I would talk to him about giving other cereal as the baby is still very young and learning to handle solids. It might be too much for his stomach.
When I had my second I could not believe how much I forgot about babies so I sympathize completely. There are some decent sites (Today's Parent) to help as well. Hope this helps and all the best!

My daughter is also 4 months old. Today she ate over 40 oz and cereal once. I think around 4 months they hit a growth spurt. If he's hungry feed him, this is your third child I'm sure you can tell if hes hungry or wanting comfort. My daughter will push the bottle away and shut her mouth when shes full...so I know shes not being over fed.
Oh, and she isnt overweight at all, shes only in the 25th percentile eating that much!

I have a 4 month old grandson, and his doctor said to begin him on cereal and fruits and vegetables. He does not have a regular schedule for eating them, but he can have some if he seems hungary between feedings. Some days he has cereal once, sometimes none. He weights 16 pounds, and is 25 inches long. He was born at 10 pounds and 3 ounces. He is long and lean and very healthy.
Every doctor differs, which indicates that there is a wide range of normal. If your doctor says his weight is okay, don't worry. But always get approval from your doctor for what to feed him.

Your toddler sounds fairly usual. something from 2-4 hours (or any combination there-of) could be everyday. maximum toddlers this age are going an prolonged stretch or 2 at night, yet some are nevertheless nursing each 2-4 hours around the clock. I nursed on call for, so do no longer undergo in innovations how in many situations she ate -- yet in all risk approximately each 2 hours, with 2 3-5 hour stretches at night.

He's only 4 months old and shouldn't be having solids at all.
That is a lot of food for him to be having. I'd see a doctor - maybe there's a medical reason for his constant hunger.
Alternatively, maybe he's not really hungry and is using the bottle to comfort suck. Try a dummy/pacifier instead of the bottle. It may take awhile for him to get used to it, but persist and he should eat more normal amounts.
Good luck!

Solids shouldn't be started until 6 months. Even if a baby seems more hungry than usual, their digestive systems aren't ready yet. As long as his weight his fine, there's nothing to worry about.

Maybe he's having a growth spurt. To avoid him eating too much too often, only feed him every 3-5 hours.

Yes, it is time to move on to soft solids. Always make sure you try one new food at a time in-case of allergies. He is at a good healthy weight & behaving normally. The boy is just hungry ; )
