what exactly is a period? I know it is a silly question but I have very irregular periods and I would like to know what my body is missing out on since it isn't getting a period but twice a year. And im 18 is this normal?

You should see a doctor. Not having a regular period can be harmful to your bones, depending on why you're not getting it.

Perhaps you should consult with your OB/GYN about the irregularity of your cycles. You could have a simply hormone imbalance that can be easily corrected with birth control pills (aka hormones)

What causes your period is the build up of hormones in your body, which causes you to release an egg from your ovary. The egg travels down the tube, and if it isn't fertilized, then lining in your uterus is flushed out (period).

very general explanation, but it gets the point across.

No, that is not normal. I'm the same way and I'm 28. I went to the GYN earlier this month because of it and I was put on birth control to get them regulated. You may have to do the same thing. I was only getting like 2 a year as well.

maybe if u have an eating disorder or even if u dont if uve just lost alot weight that can cause u to miss your period for a long time and u have to eat really healthy while your body adjusts to your new weight before it will be regular again( =
