Teaching is very rewarding. There are problems with teaching. Your income is not great, and politically education gets cuts when state funds are low. I would suggest you find a classroom to volunteer in, maybe a summer school since you are still a student. Look for after school tutoring programs that you can work at. You want to have as much experience as you can in the classroom. This will give you a great understanding of what teaching is like and give you the experience you will need.

Look into what kind of opportunities there are for you to work with younger kids. There's nothing wrong with being 15 and deciding that 's what you want to do. As you get older (especially when you get into college), you'll have more opportunities to work with kids to help you make your decision. Teaching is like any other job, there are tremendous rewards and benefits, and there can be unbelievable frustrations. But if it's what you love to do, then it's a job that's definitely worth it.

And if you change your mind and decide to get into something else, then it's not a big deal. That's what college is for, finding out who you are and what is the best fit for you. Good luck!

When I was a sophomore in HS I went to a week-long summer "camp" on a college campus, for kids who were thinking about being teachers (this was at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, ten years ago). Maybe you or your guidance counselor can find something like that for you to try.

I knew I wanted to be a teacher since grade school. Don't worry about jumping to conclusions - trust yourself. I love teaching. I also agree with one of your other answers, start volunteering in a classroom if you can. I tutored in a 5th grade classroom during my study hall for National Honor Society volunteer hours. It helped me choose my area of education (special education).

Good Luck!

I am a recently retired teacher and I would very strongly suggest you get into the classroom and volunteer ASAP, the more time you actually spend there, the sooner you will know if you like if. It is MUCH MUCH different as a teacher than as a student. Get in their and see if you really like it, it is a very hard and very rewarding job.
