Absolutely! If it's good enough to give a best answer to ... then it definitely deserves a thumbs up and the extra point! =)
On occasion I choose the answer with the most "thumbs up" as best because if that many people felt it was a great answer then I think it deserves to be recognized. It helps me when there are several good answers and I'm having a hard time choosing just one!

No, I don't always give a thumbs up when I'm choosing a Best Answer, but I'll make sure to make it a regular habit to do that.

I do give thumbs up, however I never thought it counted
towards getting 10 points for the best answer.
I give thumbs up because I truly liked the answer.
Truthfully, it does not give any more points.
