at what age you stop sucking your thumb?

Yes,I was.My parents used to do all sort of malicious things like putting pepper sauce or this really bitter,BITTER crap under my thumbnail or even duct-taping a sock onto my little hand to make me stop sucking my thumb but I would always find a way to secretly wash it or to find a way to pull the sock off.To me it was a comforting security blanket and I could never understand (until I had to wear braces for five years!)why they wouldn't just leave me alone and let me suck my thumb to my heart's content.I was a teenager before I completely stopped doing this but I'll still find myself being tempted to cover up my head and pop in that left thumb whenever I'm upset or very,very tired.
